Talking Hello from Valdez Alaska

Greetings everyone,
My name is Paul. My wife and I purchased a 2016 Springdale 212 RBWE about 18 months ago down in Oregon and have since moved up to AK with our cat, Lucy, and our dog, Juneau. We full timed for a few months before making the move north and have since settled in Valdez, Alaska.

We spent the summer exploring interior Alaska and having a blast. I recently did a major interior renovation, painting all the walls and cabinets (bright white walls, white upper cabinets, navy lower cabinets) with some fun teal accents. It was a huge project of love, but a great surprise for my wife when she returned from a visit to her parents to see our trailer transformed. I'll post some pictures to the forum soon.

I upgraded our battery bank this summer as well, upgrading from the 12v battery to four 6v golf cart batteries to give us some extra time on the batteries for boon docking. We have a generator, nice Honda 2000, but I wanted the extra battery hours for when generator use is restricted, and to have plenty of power to run the furnace through the night.

Next projects in store for us include upgrading the window sconces to match the new interior, and redoing the slide. We're thinking of removing the dinette, changing to a small table/desk combo, or building a custom loveseat with fold up tables. Our model didn't have the murphy bed, so unless we're in bed, there's not really anywhere for my wife and I to sit together comfortably.

Anyway, our pets love our life on the road, and our cat is taking nicely to walks on the leash. She's a Bengal, very curious.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to talking shop and finding more ways to improve our home on wheels.

What has been your favorite AK destination so far for camping? My wife and I really enjoyed our trip to Homer, especially our stay at Captain Cook State Park outside of Kenai.

I would have to say all time favorite would be Teklanika Campground in Denali National park. We also like Homer and Captain Cook. We tend to stay at city, state and federal parks versus private ones when we go. Lots of times we are visiting friends and set up at their residence. We also have several secret sites we like to keep that way.
