Might be getting a new Fuzion....

....kind of torn because my Wife and I absolutely love our current Fuzion. We have a 2018 417. It's the 10 Year Anniversary Edition. Solid wood everything, cabinets, doors and etc. Construction on that trailer VS the new ones just doesn't feel the same.

We are wanting a more open concept in the floor plan along with a little more room in the master bedroom for the dogs to sleep. Our current bed faces North and South, the new ones Face West to East (as I am sure you know) and that gives you so much more room at the foot. Washer Dryer prep in the master is nice also.

Floor plan we are looking at is the 428 with Full Body Paint (orange). Not sure I am 100% a fan of the new couch material. It also would appear they are ditching the Lippert leveling system for another brand. Less failure rate we were told.

Are we making a mistake in switching?

Personally if you currently have a good functioning/no problem rv that your happy with , I’d be hesitant to buy new with all of the supply chain issues and some of the quality issues covid has caused

I’d maybe wait a year or so till things smooth out…also possibly they are ditching lippert leveling because of the very same supply issues

The biggest issue right now is trades are valued so high and new ones don't seem to have gone up much. Kind of a buyers and sellers market right now. We are getting under 2K on the trade VS what we paid for the rig. That's what makes this oh sooooo temping.

I haven't heard of anyone getting a "better trailer" than they traded in, just a "newer trailer with different problems"... For almost every one of them, the different problems are significantly more to deal with than the old problems... in other words, there's been a lot of "buyer's remorse" from people who have bought new trailers in the past year and many of them have expressed a "if I had it to do over again, I'd have kept my old rig"...

Not everyone is unhappy, but if you can, rather than "sign a deal and order a new one" find the one you want on a lot and spend a day inspecting EVERYTHING you can get to on that trailer, then, if it meets your approval, start comparing it to your old rig and see how the numbers stack up.....

Unfortunately I can't do that. This has to be a special order due to fully body paint.

I can inspect the crap out of it when it comes in.

We do tend to hear stories of folks with new trailer issues as this seems to be their first stop. Many are first time buyers and this may skew their feeling about the problems they are having as there are likely unrealistic expectations. I also think there have been more complaints in the past year so tend to agree with John's take... if your current camper situation ain't broke, don't fix it.

Can you have the option to keep your old trailer if the new one doesn’t stack up?

I sold my '15 Cougar last year and then we purchased a new Avalanche.. YES it is a "BETTER" trailer... or at least it will be when I get done fixing all the things that I had already fixed on the Cougar..

It has things that we wanted and that the Cougar didn't have, so it was a step up from the Cougar but damned it's going to be a lot of work to get everything "right"

Think about that before you trade...

With this not being our first rodeo, I have been there and done that with camper issues. Our Fuzion 417 had a couple of issues when we first go it. I got those ironed out and things have been rock solid for years.

The issue is, new buyers don't realize the RV Industry isn't the Automotive industry. You can look at two of the same year model vehicles and welds, tacks and rivets will be in the same place. That isn't true in the RV Industry. Each camper, even though the same make, model and year are all "snow flakes".

I think Javi is on point. "Better" means a lot of things. If you are getting things in it you don't have in the old one, that's "better". There are countless ways to quantify better but most folks wouldn't buy a new trailer if it wasn't "better" in some fashion in their way of thinking.

Now, "better" build? "Better" quality? Those things are highly subjective and also vary from trailer to trailer of the same brand/model. Going in as Javi describes is the only way to do it IMO; eyes wide open, knowing there are things that won't be right or like you want that you have to add/fix. There WILL be some sort of component failure so plan on it and take it in stride. If so, like Javi you will have a "better" trailer than your last one; I feel the same way about mine.

On full body paint we have to put down 5k. I am told its non-refundable.

That’s a awful big risk on the buyers end…I still wouldn’t sign for it unless everything was 100 percent perfect….non refundable? I don’t have much experience with buying new rv’s but can they do that?…what if it has serious issues or paint flaws? No recourse? Do they guarantee no price increase after you order?…I would think $500 or a $1000 shows good faith …seems a bit unreasonable to me ….maybe use a credit card if possible to give you some room to get money back if unsatisfactory

Good luck with the purchase though..sounds like a nice rv

In my opinion, your comment that the $5K is non-refundable would lead me to run like my butt was on fire. If you are truly the 'veteran' of wheeling and dealing in combination with RV'ing then I would think you would also. As was said, $500,yes, $5K no.
Also, and remember I am a big time dog person, your other comment "with a little more room in the master bedroom for the dogs to sleep" makes me shake my head a little.
Surely you aren't willing to part with thousands of dollars to make an animal happy that will sleep in a wet bathtub, standing on their head on the back of the couch, laying in the mud in a duck blind, just so they can be near you and Momma? They don't care, man. Don't part with that money to make a couple Fido's happier, ain't gonna make a difference.

No one can tell you if you are "making a misteak". It's YOUR, money YOURyour desires so only YOU can make that determination. What YOU are willing to give up or accept to get what YOU want is up to YOU. I think there's been more than sufficiant evidence everywhere that Coved has impacted supply and quality issues for just about everything.

As for a $5K non refundable deposit I can understand that. Why? The color, I can't recall ever seeing a large trailer painted orange. Is that a custom color or do they offer it in orange? All I can imagin is the Lionel train from my childhood. The trsin I had included an orange hoxcar I think had Frisco written on it IIRC. Anyway, if you backed out of the deal than what is the dealer going to do with a big orange trailer setting on the lot? As to the legality of forfeiting a deposit you would need to check that out with your state. Typically if you sign a contract that fully discloses those types of stipulations (like buying something as-where is) then you aknowledge and accept the terms and the only recourse is in court. But I'll emphasize again the YOU need to find that out for your state and the state the trailer is being sold in if it differs.

Sounds like the previous posts have hit on all my issues.
The dealer knows he will have trouble selling an orange RV if you back out.
As much as I love full body paint, I wouldn make that deal.
And mega dittoes on the dogs. They can sleep anywhere.

You realize the entire thing isn’t orange right? Have you ever seen full body paint jobs?

It’s just their standard paint job. You only get 3 to choose from. Blue, Red and Orange. These 3 colors are just accent colors. Base is like a gray/black combo.

Well, the deal is done. I found out the down payment is refundable. On our trade, we are getting 3K less than we originally paid. All in all it's a pretty good deal. We are camping this weekend and I have a feeling this will be the last trip in our 417. Kind of sad. She has been really good to us.

Hopefully the camper Gods shine down on us on the new model.

Kind of disappointed. A solid orange trailer would be a fantastic way to ensure it would never be stolen!
