Just getting into the RV Life

Hello y’all,
Wife and I did an impulse buy of an older RV, already had our first trip, filled with mishaps and adventure last week. A passenger side blowout on the RV 76 miles into the trip and then my clutch fading on my Chevy on the freeway. Despite the unfortunate circumstances we managed to make our way safely to our destination and back home without any further problems.
Pulled into a discount tire and had all tires replaced and the Chevy is in the shop getting a new clutch, flywheel and master and slave cylinders replaced.
We were just blessed that no one including ourselves were injured or worse.
I will have to repair under the cabinet floorboard as the flat damaged it and left a hole, not a big deal, I can do the repairs myself, also a bit of the wrap was bent, I think I will just re-straighten and paint.
Anyway I thought I would say hello and maybe I will see y’all on the trail somewhere.
Jeff

Hello Jeff, welcome to you and your DW!

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes, but am happy it turned out OK.

Being handy in repairs is a good thing, no matter how new or old the RV is.

Enjoy your adventures, and take care!

Welcome to the forum

Glad to have you, happy to hear the mishaps didn’t dampen your spirits. Being able to do your own repairs will prove invaluable. But for those times you may feel over your head we are here. Lot’s of good information and loads of great people here.

Welcome! Generally when the clutch starts complaining, you replace the clutch AND the pressure plate and throw out bearing. Flywheel, if warped. Anyway, put together a signature with year, make and mode of camper and same for your tow vehicle. I have a 2002 Cougar and understand older campers and think they are a better bet that a brand, spanking new camper for many reasons. Good luck and God bless!

Any clutch job I do will include all those components or I won’t do it.

The OP hasn't signed on since he posted the original post in this thread 11/7. Might not make sense to follow up if he isn't reading this thread.

Don't loose heart. When I joined this forum, I posted an introduction and it was about 6 years later I started actually posting anything. I'd come back and check the forum out without logging in. I was very active with another forum at that time, so this one just kind of sat there for me. Times changed and this one and the Montana Owners Club forum became my go-to forums!

He may come back. Be patient.
