California banning portable gas generators

Looks like by 2024 you will no longer be able to purchase portable gas generators, lawn mowers ,weed eaters etc..everything under 25 hp must be zero emissions in California

But the celebrities and billionaires will still be able to dock their super yachts and fly their private jets in and out of the state…but don’t you dare start up that weed eater.
I don’t know what that means to boondocking ..maybe they will consider a factory installed fifth wheel generator exempt

Won’t be feasible to cut a large yard anymore unless you buy a $20000 compact tractor or a $10000 battery operated Tesla push lawn mower lol.
Guess they are hoping to get rid of the pesky people with large yards in the suburbs and hope they move back to the failing cities

Why is it a problem swapping from a gasoline generator to an electric generator to protect the environment? We know that the entire world follows our lead. Gasoline generators are powered by fossil fuel and all electric generators are powered by massive wind turbines, hydro-electric power and solar panels attached to the brackets where the fuel tank was located.
In just a few years the entire world, China and South America included, will be following the lead of California.
Texas Javi, Ontario Dan and New Mexico Jerry made me post this.

What in the world does this even mean? You use a small gasoline generator when the power goes out or you are in a remote location.

How are you going to power an electric generator? What does that even mean? If you have electricity to power it, why would you need a generator?

I doubt you have a large wind turbines or small damn in your yard in Germantown. How many batteries would you need to run you house last year when the power was out in some parts of Memphis for two to three days?

Todd727,

Take a look at the last sentence in Jim's post: "Texas Javi, Ontario Dan and New Mexico Jerry made me post this." That should have been a "dead give-away" of his intentions....

As for having a small dam in the yard, I do, but so far, the chipmunks have been keeping the "squirrel cage behind the pole barn turning fast enough" and I've not yet had to rely on hydroelectric power. Hopefully the beaver family that built the dam won't cut down all my trees, but if they do, I can build a "steam generator" to replace the chipmunks powered by the left over wood... Those "pesky beaver" only eat the soft, tender shoots out of the treetops.... Wasteful critters, eh ????

I see it as you can’t BUY a gas powered mower, blower etc. it doesn’t say you can’t continue to operate the one you have.

I do have 18V weed eater and blower since my yard used to require a 100’ extension cord to reach both ends. My gas mower will be in working order and I will continue to operate it to mow my front yard. Years back the city was giving away electric mowers, I wasn’t lucky enough to get one, and until my current mower dies I have no intention on buying a battery operated one.

Somebody voted for these idiots.
Rest assured it wasn't me.
There are consequences to elections.
I would just as soon Texas succeeded. I am not alone.
I just survived driving through Dallas. Sitting in Winstar Casino RV Park. On Jim Beam #2.

Texas has always succeeded! I am thinking SECEDE is what you are looking for... God bless Texas! It got me wondering... will propane powered generators be lumped with gas powered?

From what I understand and have heard via different sources, non-fossil fuel sources failed miserably in California not very long ago.

I have had one basic philosophy for all of human life and that is:

"Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it!"

Think about that!

There is LOTS of windmills out here, SMUD ( Sacramento Municipal utility district) is advertising that they intend on being “carbon neutral” by 2030

So, CARB compliance is going to mean "0" emissions??
Only 12% of the US population lives in California and yet this tail looks to continue to wag the national dog.
I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around "Battery Powered Generators"

The law is simply ludicrous and the ability to adhere to it is impossible using common sense. It can't be done and won't be done to their desired level but they will push, push, push for sure. Let's all have an electric mower; neighbor has a very nice one, takes 3 days to mow his yard because it dies every 20 minutes and then he has to go do something else. An RV park we stay at tried them, could not get the RV park done (just the parts that the big mowers couldn't get to) without buying multiple "electric" (ie; need power generated by fossil fuels) mowers due to their severe limitations. Those went away right quick.

I guess if I was unfortunate and lived there I would make trips out of state to buy those items limited for sale "in the state".

Add it to the EV mandate.

Well, California was known as the land of fruits and nuts. I guess it still fits (for a certain segment of the population, not all!). And just as bad, Minnesota is heading the way of being the land of the frozen fruits and nuts since they just love to follow CA rules…

Yes, it seems many of them seem to congregate in Sacramento and make rules... That holds true for many other places as well as you allude to. Sad thing is I always liked "fruits and nuts"; pull them off the plant, devour them, bake them, fry/toast them and one of my favorites is to put them in a dehydrator for 8-10 hours. Wonder if that works for all "fruits and nuts"?

It also doesn't say you can't buy on in another state and bring it back. You just can't buy one in the state. Still ludicrous, but there are plenty of ways to circumvent it.
