Double Bonus

Just found out my 22 Outback 328RL comes with the Elements Climate Control Package which includes 2 Colman Mach soft start AC's. Has anyone experienced these 13,500 BTU units? Is it possible to run them (or one) using a 2400 Watt Inverter and 400 watt solar????

That's 20 amps. One a/c unit may trip the inverter at start up even with a soft start, running 2 is unlikely. Unless you have a lot of battery capacity it won't run very long and 400 watts of solar lwon't keep up with the demand.

With two batteries, you're looking at "maybe an hour"....

This is from the "horses mouth" on the Battle Born website:

https://battlebornbatteries.com/run-...ium-batteries/

For How Long Will A Lithium Battery Run Your RV AC Unit?
How long a lithium battery can run your AC depends on your battery or battery bank size and the size of your RV AC unit.

For example, a 100 Ah lithium battery will power a typical 15,000 BTU RV AC unit for about 30 minutes. If you’re RVing in hot weather, running your AC for 30 minutes likely won’t do much to increase your comfort. However, if you had a bank of eight 100 Ah batteries, it would run for about four hours. This may be just enough time to beat the heat in the hottest part of the day.

Looks like I'm gonna have to pull a trailer behind my camper with just batteries. At $1000 a piece probably not. Wish someone could come up with an energy efficient 12 volt AC...

I'll stick with my Coleman Mach's. Just seems that everyone's trying to get to a point that they can boondock for a week with AC. Probably not a reality yet. Not without a chunk of change and a lot of mods.

Here's the thing with mechanical engineering and physics, it takes the same amount of "work" (energy) to climb a hill by going up a long gentel slope as it does to go in a direct line straight up the side. The higher the voltage a motor runs on the lower the amperage and the lower the loss of energy by thermal inefficiancies. There's a good reason that EV's aren't designed to operate on 12 vdc.

"Swamp coolers" work ok in the desert. If much of any humidity is present it'll just add humidity and make you feel more miserable.

Pretty simple for us. When it's hot we just camp where it's cooler

sounds good, sucks when you have to get back Sunday so you can get to work Monday morning. Got a few years 'til retirement.
