Assist Door Handle Foam Grip

I need to replace the foam grip on the door assist handle. I took the handle off the trailer. I noticed inside the two hinge assemblies some rubbery compound.

Is this some kind of insulation, glue or what? Do I need to do something other than screwing the hinges back on to the trailer once the new foam is installed? This is on a 2018 Cougar.

It's called polybutyl. Look for it in your local big box store. It's a soft gasket material used to block water. If you look closely you'll see it under everything on the exterior where a screw penetrates the siding. The link will get you started.
If you can't find the exact size, roll it up like playdough and smooth it back out like you're making biscuits.
