Spraying Toilet

I have been living in my camper full time for about 10 months now. I have constantly had this problem with the toilet spraying and it is driving me insane. The toilet has no rim so I figured that might be the problem and have tried to make one but it still sprays out the top. I am not good at fixing things but I also can’t move my camper so I’m looking for advice. It doesn’t matter if the black water tank is empty or not it still spray water everywhere. I’ve gotten used to holding a sheet of plastic in front of my leg while I step on the pedal to flush it so I don’t get it on my leg. The water is destroying the floor though. It does seem to get worse when the water tank is low or has just been filled but it’s always terrible.

Do you have a water pressure regulator on your trailer city water connection ???

Have you looked at the water "flush ports" around the rim to see if there is a mineral buildup that's acting like a "finger in the stream of water" causing it to spray in the wrong direction???

Those are the first two "issues that might be causing your problem"...

When you consider that there are millions of Dometic 310 toilets in use and very few with the problem you face, I'd look for issues "outside the toilet" as being the cause. Primarily, too much water pressure and blocked/deformed spray ports....

Where is it spraying from? Under the rim of the seat?

If so try to clean out any hard water deposits or anything else in the little spray holes under the rim. It might have a little bit of something blocking the hole increasing the pressure or diverting the spray stream.

That looks like a Dometic 310 rimless toilet. They will spray water over the top if the water pressure is too high (btdt). If the orifices get clogged with buildup it can also cause the direction of the little outlets. Clean the flush ports and make sure there is no buildup and put a good water regulator (adjustable) on your water supply and see what that does. Let us know.

Couldn't this be a two in one bonus bidet feature?

How old is that trailer? Looking at the top pic it looks like a lot of gunk in the holes and the holes appear to be damaged. I'd recommend replacing the toilet.

I agree. I did not magnify the pic originally but it appears some of those ports are damaged. A new 310 will fix that whereas a bottle (or 2) of CLR or the like may or may not.

I looked at this on my office computer with a large monitor. I gagged when I saw it on my 32" monitor.

To clean out the ports use a drill bit pointing up about 15-20 degrees.
Don't use a drill motor.
Just turn the bit with your fingers.
Your likely to get chunks of hard water residue out of some or all of the ports.
Do not drop the bit.
If you drop it pickit up &
DO NOT OPEN THE VALVE TILL YOU GET IT.

Good luck.

Would a water filter on the fresh water line help with the hard water issue?

That depends on the filter and the hardness of the water. You can purchase 10" filter cartridges that " soften water" but if the water has a high iron, salt, or other mineral content it will need to be treated differently. An inexpensive disposable water filter will do nothing to treat "hard water".

If it's not chunked full of calcium or "something else" just a bit less water pressure may help. Our brand new camper had this issue, even at low pressures. I installed a ball valve in the feed line and restricted the flow to stop the issue. The amount of flow lost was not noticeable. I removed the handle from the ball valve and put it in the medicine cabinet to hopefully keep the kids from messing with it.

The OP didn't hang around after posting. I live in an area with VERY deep wells and VERY hard water. Is the OP in a park? Why is the OP using her water tank? Why not city water? A lot of questions. If the water she uses comes from a single source, she should have it tested for hardness. She well could use a water softener if full timing and it should be sized based on the actual hardness of the water as tested.

I worked in the field contracting and inspecting contractors and the trades . I always heard there were only 5 things you need to know to become a plumber....

1. Hot is on the left
2. Cold is on the right
3. "Stuff" flows downhill
4. Payday is on Friday
5. Don't bite your fingernails.

The electricians often would tease the plumbers that "A plumber was just an electrician with his brains blown out". Don’t hate, these aren't my opinions. In fact, I've always said plumbers don't get paid enough for some of the old work they do. For the unfamiliar "old work" would be existing used structure and "new work" is working on a structure that's being built for the first time.

I agree 100%, with sourdough, I have been upgrading my daughters 32' Vantage to her personal tastes, & after several goes at trying to obtain a replacement flush valve, [split & non replaceable] I opted to replace toilet with another Brand, that has replacement parts available. My daughters 310 with clean nozzles & with W.P. set at 40 psi still sprayed across the rim, unless you gently pressed the foot pedal.

Hey. No I don’t have a pressure regulator but I also don’t have the city water connected. I just fill the tank. I do think their is calcium buildup and just ordered some pipe cleaners to see if that will work but it’s been doing it since the day I got it and it didn’t seem to have buildup at that time.
