Saving Dicor Etc.
I've used caulk/Dicor/silicone for decades. No problem at all when you are running through a lot of product and then have some left. My issue is, and has been for years, what in the world to do with Dicor ($12 a tube) after using a small amount.
Just went over the seams on the RV today (2020) and had nothing but a couple of spots to touch up. Opened a new tube to do that and used a "dab". I have tried all kinds of caps, sealing the top....so many things I can't recall but the one thing that is a constant - they will dry up.
Today I tried a new direction; I've used the little rubber caps for EGR lines/PCV lines for years working on old engines. You can get them in a pack of various sizes at auto stores. And, I have multiple vacuum sealers for the house, RV etc. that work great. Stressing over opening yet another tube of Dicor and letting it ruin I had a revelation as I was napping ; what about using that rubber cap to seal the end of the tube and then vacuum seal it??? I have no idea but gave it a whirl today. If anyone has tried this chime in. Here's a pic of my "finished product" for use, hopefully, another day;

Let us know how it works! In theory, it sounds like a perfect solution.
I am on my second year of the same Dicor tube. I put a screw into the tip, and when I am ready the following year, I partially unscrew the screw and then yank it out the rest of the way with pliers and it gives me a clear channel for a fresh flow of product.

What I've had luck with is shoving a roofing nail in the end. When I go to use it again I pull the nailbout then remove the "Funnel" from the end and use vompressed air with a nlow gun to blow out the contents backwards into a rag. Typically end up with a little dtied uo pyramid in the rag. Replace the applicator cap and proceed.

Danny I have not tried that with decor. For a trip I make a hamburger Patties . The DW makes soup containers and freeze Everything get put into vacuum seal . I put the sealed soup right in the microwave defrost it’s slowly heats and will not explode . With the vac seal I can load the freezer up considerably more. I make a mess with anything that is paste, glue and oil, I’ll try that for the road and hope I never use it .

Lowe's hardware / home renovation stores carry a cap that fits over the end of the caulking tubes and they work very, very well. I had 4 of the older ones (just the cap), and they keep the tube from drying out. I've had some tubes capped this way for over a year. Not Dicor, but other caulkings I use around the house.
I have since opened a tube of "Alpha" caulking for my current Montana fifth wheel and have had one of these on it for at least 2 years now. I used a bit of it just about a month ago and it was still usable.
I have since purchased some new ones and now using them. I have several tubes of caulking for several different purposes around the house and the camper.
These work very, very well: Click here.
the secret though is to NOT cut the tip too far down. Snip the end, about 1/4 inch of the top. These seal really good for a long, long time.

I'm a believer in vacuum sealing. Things in the freezer keep great. A month or so ago I got the bright idea to vacuum seal a fully greased set of wheel bearings to carry with me. This makes it easy to carry without a mess and keeps it protected from dirt and grime. I just hope I DON'T have the opportunity to open and use it on the side of a highway!
Sourdough keep us posted. I like your idea.

I have some tiny “condoms” that I found at Lee Valley, specially made for sealing the nozzles. They seal better than any cap or plug that I’ve tried. I have also had success by squeezing the caulking out just slightly and letting it dry like that. It is a sealant after all, and the dried plug can be pulled out when ready to use the remains. I have no experience with Dicor yet though.

I put a screw in the tip to seal it, then wrap masking tape around the tip/screw to further seal it and store it in the refrigerator in the garage. It's worked "OK" and most tubes of caulk survive storage this way. 100% silicone though.... I've never managed to save it for more than a couple weeks before the tip is so well set up that it just won't flow, no matter how much I try to clear the dried silicone from the applicator.
I like the vacuum seal idea and am going to try it with my DICOR and also with silicone to see if it might give better results.

Great ideas guys, I tried the nail in the end and after awhile it's still no joy. Last
opened decor tube was 4 months old and hard as a rock.
I don't use my vacuum sealer enough. I like the idea and with spare wheel bearings. Other stuff in boat and RV tool box could be vacuumed sealed.

I've not tried that particular DAP product but I've used some type of caps supposed to save caulk but didn't have much luck. I'll get some of those and give them a whirl too.
