Where is my converter?
Hi all,
I have a 2007 Mountaineer Fifth Wheel. I've been having power issues and I believe my converter needs to be replaced.
I checked behind the fuse panel and it's not there. Does anyone know where it may be?
Thanks.

Many converters were mounted "fairly close to the power center" and often "in the passthrough, behind the false panel, under the stairs"...

Before you spend the money on a new converter you may want to list some of your issues.
I’m thinking converters are usually either good or bad .. not anything in between

Stand alone converters have about 3’ cord, some times plugged into the back of the breaker panel. In fivers the favorite place seems to be behind the rear wall of the front compartment with a dedicated outlet screwed to the floor.

Thanks, that was it. Not going to be fun lying down in the compartment (not to mention having to pull all the table and chairs I have stored in there). Would be great if they put it to one side, it's right in the middle. Also going to be a bitch because it's behind some ducting.
To clarify for others looking later, it's the rear wall of the front SIDE TO SIDE compartment, not the one that faces the front of the camper.

Quick simply the battery isn't charging when I'm plugged in at home and sometimes I have power issues opening/closing the slides at home and dropping/raising the front legs, lights going out, fridge not working.
Also, when I'm at a campground plugged in eventually, my lights dim and my fridge shuts off. Plugging in an external battery charger to the battery helps, but ultimately it can't keep up.

Have checked the batteries yet? You could have a battery with a shorted cell.

I agree. Test the battery(s) first. Volts and LOAD Test. And the two fuses on the back of the converter.
Have you checked voltage at the converter leads with it plugged in and good fuses?

Not the battery, replaced it last year (and the problem still existed). I haven't gotten in there yet. Would be great if it's a fuse.

I’ve seen brand new batteries be bad right “out of the box”.

If you replaced the battery a year ago and have been having issues with it not charging properly I'm guessing that battery is ruined. Lead acid flooded cell batteries do not tolerate discharging below 50%, especially "dual purpose" batteries that have a cold cranking amp rating.

If you don't know where it is then you obviously have not checked it. What makes you think it needs replaced? Many things can cause "Power issues". Checked the pedestal?, Plug connections,?
When you find it, use a voltmeter and and properly diagnose the problem.

Might be a good idea to get the battery load tested. And it might be a good idea to add a signature with your camper year, make and MODEL along with the same for your tow vehicle. This info gives answers to your questions better context. The signature function is found by clicking the UserCP button at the top left of each page. Good luck.
