Chunker is shortened from Rocket Chunker, a nick name I was given my second tour in sunny SE Asia in 72. It came about because at the beginning of my second tour I got into a discussion with one of the junior slick pilots, Huey driver, I was a seasoned Cobra driver and instructor pilot. I made the statement that a rocket could be fired with accuracy and hit a point target if you were good enough. Modesty wasn't my high point. For the uninformed, rockets are a fire and forget, not guided like a missile.
So this relatively newby slick driver thought he was going to take this experienced newby gun driver down with a teasing nickname. Only thing within a month I put a rocket into the door of a bunker destroying it and all inside. The name was shortened to Chunker and became a name of admiration and affection that some old comrades around the country still use when we see.
