Squeaky trailer

I recently purchased a 2014 Keystone 21RBS and really like it. One thing I notice is when I’m in my neighborhood going at low speed (not braking) the trailer creeks and squeaks. Seemed to be coming from the brake area so I replaced the brake assembly on the rear axle but still getting the same thing. I also lubricated the springs, etc. and pretty sure it’s coming from the brakes. Before I replaced the rear axle brakes the existing ones weren’t all that bad but one of the brake pad arms seemed to be kind of loose and that’s what I thought the problem was. Bearings seemed to be fine. Any ideas.

It's the spring packs and the bolts that hold them in the spring hangers.

If you want to resolve it, a wet bolt kit and a Saturday afternoon (if you're mechanically inclined) or if you don't know a Phillips from a common screwdriver, any trailer repair business can install the wet bolt kit, usually for around $200 plus parts ($100).

The noise may be coming from the leak spring pivot points at the shackles and center equaliser. The plastic bushings wear relatively quickly and then you have steel on steel. Many of us upgrade to a wet bolt kit that replaces the plastic bushings with bronze bushings and the bolts that have grease fittings to allow lubrication of the pivot points.

I am mechanically inclined and I’ve done trailer brake jobs a few time but have not heard of a “wet bolt kit”. I will look into it. I would have thought that the new brake assembly I installed would have taken care of it so I don’t get it.

From what I’m hearing it’s not the brakes at all but the springs and it should be replace with the wet bolt kit. I’ll dig into that and see what happens. Thanks

So on etrailer I see Dexter Heavy Duty suspension kit for a fandom axle trailer. This includes the zen fitting and wet bolts. Costs about $150 for the whole kit. Is this what you’re recommending?

I just did that to my trailer. Totally worth it.

No, etrailer didn't have them, I was stranded in Ohio, just wanted to get home. Pulls nice, no squeaks. I'm going to trade it in, so dont want to put anything else on it.

So to be clear you didn’t do the equalizer and just did the bushings/wet bolts.

Yes, there is really no wear on the equalizer itself, just the bushings. Went from nylon to brass.

This thread should provide everything you need to select the appropriate wet bolt kit and DIY install: http://www.keystoneforums.com/forums...ad.php?t=24991

The kit will include the bushings and greaseable bolts for the equalizer.

Remember to re-grease these often (every 500-1000 miles). I start to notice squeaking around 1000 miles.

And if you have everything apart anyway, it might be a good time to repack the wheel bearings and inspect the brakes.
