Hi!

New guy here. Greetings from Northern California

I'm 40 something, married, with 2 (12 year old son, 15 year old daughter) kids. After 2 years of debate (and 20 years of tent camping), we finally bit the bullet and purchased a 2008 Sprinter 26BHS. It will be towed by a 2003 F250 Diesel (yes, a 6.0, which is for another forum). We've never done ANY RV stuff at all (and, honestly, we rejected the whole idea for a long time, but warm and comfortable nights have taken priority), so this is all new to us. We have several short trips here in California coming up, with the big trip for this year being a 12 day journey to/and from Yellowstone in July.

The Sprinter is in good condition, and very clean (at least as far as I can tell). We're amazed at what can be put into an RV.
Thanks - Happy Traveling!

Welcome to the forum

After your first outing, any doubts about camping in an RV instead of a tent will be gone. Lots of good folks here and tons of great information. I'm just a bit south of you.

Thanks to all!

Our driveway is not very conducive to trailer camping (will barely fit the F250) and our street is narrow, so we're doing a shakedown at a park about 30 miles from our house (http://vieirasresort.com/ , which is highly reccomended by friends). Hopefully this will be enough to teach us about all the things we forgot to put on the list...

Your first trip will be a "memorable" one for many reasons. Hopefully everyone in your family will have the time of their life !!!

As for one trip being "enough to identify everything on the list" Don't count on it. After 40 years of "doing it" we still find things we wish we'd have brought along. So make yourself a sign, hang it in your front passthrough compartment: "Happiness is as near as the closest WalMart sporting good department"

Have fun and good luck with the first trip.

Yup!! Been doing it for a while myself and like John I still keep a pad and pen ready to take notes. Enjoy that CG in Isleton, can't say I've been there but the delta is nice this time of year.

to the forum from TX! Tent camping is fun but there comes a time when it's more fun to not have to deal with ALL that nature has to offer....rocks, rain thru the tent, wet bedrolls, etc. etc. I was about your age when my body told me.....Dan, you need a bigger TENT (read trailer). Been happy ever since. Good luck, have a blast and make some memories with the kids before they're up and gone.

Just thought I'd update this... First trip was good, started with delaminated tire in front of the house, and used leveling ramp to change the tire, good stuff.

Vieira's is nice - we were lead in by a resort employee in a truck. The spots were generous , but the park was quite full. The backin was challenging, but , true to the "legend" of RV camping, a very cool camper across the way stepped in (after letting my son and I try for a few) and had me backed in less than 10 mins - this was a great start to our stay! We stayed for 2 nights, used all the systems on the trailer (including black tank) and now feel a bit more confident. Only challenge was non-functioning turn signals/brake lights on TT on the return trip of 28 miles to home (yes INCREDIBLY dangerous) - I realized they were not working, and pulled over, but could not fix them. The harness on the truck was just re-done, so I'll be digging deeper now, I'm sure it's something simple.

If you're into fishing, Vieira's is a great spot, and was clean and well kept, with full 30/50, septic, TV and above average WiFi, for $40/night (comparable with other parks in the area).

Congrats on the new RV ! I was the same, years of tent camping, then a Hybrid popup, then a bunkhouse , now a new 5'er. It seems to be the natural evolution of those who love to camp. Your Superduty 6.0 is a fine TV, (you mentioned "thats for another story")
Lots go ahead and upgrade the intercooler/oil cooler and do an EGR delete to help with the turbo's . I just did it all on my 6.4 and tuned it.
Enjoy !

Welcome from a neighbor. For another excursion close to home, try the Far Horizons 49r RV resort in Plymouth. We love it there.
