window sealing

should I try to remove old sealant before applying new silcone caulk? nothing leaks yet but have some bad looking places

I would. Use a plastic scraper, and then clean with denatured alcohol. When you reseal, make sure to use an RV product like FlexSeal.

What sealant are you referring to? If you’re talking about the Butyl tape that is behind the window frame and squeezes out around the perimeter (looks like putty), you can scrape it, clean it, and apply new sealer. If you want to get really crazy, you can remove the windows and apply new butyl tape. BTW, butyl tape has a life expectancy of 3-5 years.

The others gave great advice!
My advice is NEVER use silicone from the big box store anywhere on a rv, there are specific sealants designed for all the particular jobs on a rv & silicone ain't one of them.
