Maintain or replace check valve?

We use only city water in our seasonal RV.

After there was suddenly no water out of any taps (with water flowing freely from outlet and hose, though!), I removed the screen washer from the city hookup and discovered the plastic check valve was stuck closed.

Can this part be lubricated or otherwise maintained?

Does being stuck closed indicated the valve soon needs replacement--or maybe just a one-off?

Thank you,

Stuck closed is a new one on me. You can use a screwdriver to dislodge the valve stem and reconnect the city water. You do "stand a chance of dislodging the O-ring in the valve stem" but since you're not using your water pump, it's of little importance anyway.

The purpose of that "one way valve" is to prevent all your fresh water tank capacity from being pumped out the open city water connection when you turn on the water pump. So, if you're not using the water pump, and only use the trailer when the city water is connected and turned on, that valve, in your situation, serves no functional purpose.

Don't "smack it" too hard, it's fragile plastic and can crack if you put too much force on the valve stem with a screwdriver and/or a hammer <G>
