The woes of society may make some unhappy, probably most. That really doesn't have to do with the quality, or lack thereof, in an RV. As has been mentioned they are designed and built to withstand rigors a sticks and bricks house can't. They are also designed and engineered to accomplish those tasks, and be assembled, as cheaply and quickly as possible. Why? Because that's what people want; they want the biggest, nicest trailer they can get for the cheapest, low dollar amount possible to be pulled by the smallest, cheapest, most incapable truck possible. Societal? Maybe. Is it what the customer wants, ie; demands? Absolutely. With that in mind WHY would an RV manufacturer go head over heels to design and manufacture RVs far outside the desires of the buying public? They don't and they won't. That's a fact of RV life/ownership.
You got 19 years out of your RV which is great by any standard. Along the way you have discovered items that in your opinion could have been done better - join the club. Every time I crawl over, under and around any RV I've owned I discover the same thing....but I KNOW it's going to be there; that's the way it is done and I know it going in. I don't complain about it because I KNEW ( as should everyone) of the shortcomings in an RV....a necessary evil so to speak. Whether it's brakes, axles, frame, A/Cs, ducts, tires etc. etc. etc. I can assuredly find a better, heavier, more costly choice. In the end no one would buy that kind of unit if it was made. And as far as the settling of the insulation in the walls; that should be expected, it happens in a S&B as well - and they aren't bounced thousands of miles down our wonderful, rough hiways.
In the end the RV manufacturers are building what is being requested by the consumer, in a manner that is apparently just fine with them judging by the skyrocketing sales. Why people want that is a completely unrelated question vs manufacturing quality and something that we on this forum, or this country, have no answer to as of yet.
