The cradle part on mine is raised up against the roller tube after the awning is closed. Haven't noticed extra wear at the cradle area but my fabric is due to be replaced anyway. Believe its still original and I've used awning repair tape on small pin holes along the top edge.

If this is the situation, then you might want to check the roller tube to make sure it's not bent. Many (almost every one I've seen) that is/was used on a seasonal site had the awning deployed "almost all the time" and many of them are not properly supported in the center when the awning is out. So, any rain "during the week while the owners are gone" puts a heavy load on the roller tube and over the years (or over one season) tend to warp from the extra weight. So, when you get time, inspect your awning roller tube to see if it's warped/bent and if that might be the reason it "pushed down the porch light"... Your awning may be the "1 in 100" that was seasonal and not bent.... but worth double checking...
