Refrigerator Question

I have a domestic dm2852 refrigerator. Started having cooling issues. The freezer freezes did to like 5 degrees, but the refridgirartor either takes forever to cool, or it doesnt cool at all. Ive read possible circuit board issue, or even heating element. I'm trying to figure out, how you determine what the problem might be. Trial and error repair? What have others done. Thanks in advance.

I just repaired one of those due to a failed cooling unit. From the outside, behind the access vent, there is a heating element that you can see high up on the right that sticks out of the chimney. There are 2 black wires leading to it. If you are able to move that element back and forth a little then it's likely OK. If you can't then it has overheated, welding itself to the chimney, and the element and cooling unit are shot and will need replacing.
