Bob R, Would that be between 72-73. I was on the Forrestal at that time. I was on the C1A crew at the time.
By the way my screen name is simple.

That would have been the time. I was onboard mid 72 to 75. Did 3 Med Cruises, one being 10 months long thanks to a fire bug that put us back in the yards for about 3 months.

Chunker is shortened from Rocket Chunker, a nick name I was given my second tour in sunny SE Asia in 72. It came about because at the beginning of my second tour I got into a discussion with one of the junior slick pilots, Huey driver, I was a seasoned Cobra driver and instructor pilot. I made the statement that a rocket could be fired with accuracy and hit a point target if you were good enough. Modesty wasn't my high point. For the uninformed, rockets are a fire and forget, not guided like a missile.

So this relatively newby slick driver thought he was going to take this experienced newby gun driver down with a teasing nickname. Only thing within a month I put a rocket into the door of a bunker destroying it and all inside. The name was shortened to Chunker and became a name of admiration and affection that some old comrades around the country still use when we see.

Crazy Cain

Back in 76 i customized my 74 Ford E100 van. Named it Crazy Cain, hence my screen name today on this forum and also was my handle on the CB radio back in the day!!!!! Custom Mural on the side was Lady Godiva running "commando" through the desert on a hourse with no name... That drew lots of attention.....
