Replacement door for front access compartment
Apparently it's a bad idea to leave your tailgate down and turn a corner with a 5th wheel. There is a very disconcerting crunching sound followed by foul words from the driver.
Fortunately the only casualty is the front access door on the 2018 Sprinter. I called the dealer and they said they'd call back with a quote - a bad sign and that was 5 days ago.
Is there a source for Keystone parts with reasonable prices that I need to know about when I do stupid things? I presume that replacing the door isn't too difficult and I understand that it comes with a new frame.
Thanks,

I'm not sure how extensive your damage is, but if the frame is intact, you can buy a 1/8" thick fiberglass shower panel (4x8 sheet) at Lowes or Home Depot in polar white for about $30. Remove the existing door, pull the FILON/foam out of the door, use the door frame as a template, mark and cut your "new door" from the fiberglass sheet, use SIKAFLEX or GAP Polyurethane sealant and reinstall the "new door" in the existing hole. You can use 3/4" rigid foam to insulate the door if you want.
Of course, if the aluminum is damaged, Trekwood is your best option if the dealer can't/won't work with you.

Just for the record, Trekwood is actually Tiara RV, just their online parts sales arm.

Funny how this comes up today. Friday as I pulled out of the drive I heard a loud racket and felt the truck bounce. I immediately stopped to inspect. Fearing the worst I found that my tail gate had fallen open. Luckily I only have a small dent in the trailer door and a small scratch on either side of the door. I guess when I closed the gate it didn't latch. Sorry your experience turned out worse than mine.

Thanks for the quick replies.
Looks like I can get the entire door for less than $250 per chuckster57's info - less than I thought.
JRTJH - any idea whether my Ash color uses the same polar white on that door? I'm not close to the camper right now to see. Great info! Looks like you've done this before.

No, I don't think the Polar White door is the color used on the Ash color motif. I think it's a different door (same shape, different color). Trekwood should be able to confirm that for you with a quick phone call. Their customer service is very knowledgeable about what parts go with which model and they usually are "right on the mark" with their advice. You can give them a call at 866.880.3093 Monday-Friday 8-5 EST.
No, so far I've been fortunate enough not to have the "tailgate rash" but have helped a few people who weren't so lucky.....

Hey Boxcar, I also had a front locker mishap. Quick repair on summer trip 2010 with white duct tape, turned into renewable repair every 2 years. Still holding on 7 plus years and 200,000 miles later. I call it a 20/20 repair, looks good from 20 ft or 20 mph.----Lou----

alternative repair
You could also see if there is a metal supply shop around and get a piece of thin aluminum diamond plate and fasten that to the door with screws.

Lemon to lemonaide
I had to go out to storage and get an exact measurement for the Trekwood quote of $590. They have the same door on their website for $240 but it is white instead of Ash.
I really like the idea of a polished aluminum diamond plate, Chris. I think I'll add a piece of aluminum on the backside, too. That would fix the structural design problem - the aluminum outside frame has the seam right where the door latch holds it up and the door is so wide that it bends when suspended.
I happened to have a roll of white duct tape with me, trucker LOU. I patched the hole on the front and back sufficiently to finish the camping trip and it is still holding quite nicely. Unfortunately, the hole included the area with the lock so it won't be a long term fix.
I'll post a picture when I get to this but it may be next spring - supposed to snow here tomorrow.

Dealer repair on my old trailer
This is how the dealer repaired the hole I put in my last trailer, they did just a strip of the aluminum diamond plate but if it was thin enough you could cover the entire door.
Good luck
Chris
