dodge ram 3500 mega cab DRW question

I was driving by the dodge dealer today and saw a nice used 2014 ram 3500 mega cab DRW. my question is does the mega cab provide more useable room in the cab or is it just a bunch of extra money for not much thats usable.

I think it's all in the eye of the beholder. A mega cab is BIG. If memory serves Dodge has the quad, crew and mega cabs. The quad is adequate for 4-5 people, the crew is great and the mega is too big IMO. That's why I got the crew on my new truck in July. You need to go sit in one and see if the room is something that is of value to you and the way you use your truck.

There is definitely more room in the back passenger area of the mega cab. It just depends how much you feel they need for you sanity while driving. My quad cab has been fine with my two but each family has their own standards and needs.

If I remember correctly, the mega cab comes with a shorter box. So the question is where do you want the space, passenger compartment or cargo area.

On edit, I remember now what it was. The mega cab is only available in a short box, no long box option.

We went from a 07 1500 quad cab to a 06 3500 mega cab. There is night and day difference in the amount of room in the cab. The quad cab to us was good if you had small kids. The mega cab has the room like a small suv in the cab. There is plenty of room no matter what size a person. For us the mega cab is just the right size. On ours the bed is the same length as the quad cab was.

since I posted yesterday I went and sat in it. there wasn't any more leg room than the standard crew cab. but I like the reclining seats idea my boys just keep growing so that might be something to look into. if you have one did you need to get a slider since the bed is shorter or did you notice at all.

I love my 4th gen mega cab. Besides the reclining seats, they fold flat and you can get as much in it as a medium size SUV. I have a buddy who is 6'4 and can sit behind me with my seat all the way back. I do wish they made it with the 8' bed, but it will be going to Utah soon.

I have a 14 3500 mega and love it. Reclining seats r the ticket and as noted can be folded flat for a ton of room. Can't get a 8 ft bed (it would be massively long). I chose the mega so the kids would have more room back there and be more comfy reclined back

I have the crew cab and it fits 3 adults in back just fine. the Mega is huge in back. It is what I wanted.

I did not buy the MegaCab for 2 reason.

1) I just can't get over the look of the cab. It is just my preference but I don't like the extra long look.

2) Bed size. You can't get a full size bed with it and I don't like the shorter bed look on the dually.

Both of these are just me. The extra room is nice for storage to keep stuff dry and handy when traveling but I could not get over the look.

I like the idea of them and have almost bought a couple over the last few years, but it keeps coming back to:

1. being a short bed. Love my 8' bed and I do use all of it

2. Towing ratings are poor for being a 1 ton dually. I would be overweight with my tow hauler.

I found one with an 8' bed on it and it was a real consideration, but the guy had not taken care of the truck up to my standards.
