Tongue Jack Saved $$$

Needed a new tongue jack so did some looking and decided on the Barker VIP 3500 24" stroke. Long story short went directly to Barker and saved lots of $$$ by doing so. The closest I could find were.. Amazon ($295.00) n Ebay ($287.00) both said w/free shipping. Barker $224.00 + 20.00 shipping = $244.00 out the door w/2 yr warranty!! Plus they tossed in a free cover. They also have the black model for the same price. Since it was going to be covered, I opted for the white. Initially I was going w/the 18" stroke but the difference through Barker was only $20. ($204 for the 3500 VIP 18"). I hope this saves someone else some $$$. And obviously the lower end Barker units are even cheaper priced. Good Luck.

Great timing! I was looking at the 18" but might go for the 24". How'd you do the buy? Their price list on the website is jumbled.

I just called direct to Barker. Transaction was quick. I think they purposely jumble it. I Called 800 537 9940.
Don't forget to ask for the free cover! I didn't have to they offered it up. Good luck

I just phoned in my order this morning. Same setup as you. How long did it take for yours to arrive? They said they'd ship it today.

I ordered it the morning of Oct 9 Tuesday and just received it today Oct 16 Tuesday. So she took a full week to get to the San Diego area via UPS. Will install tomorrow (Wednesday). Good thing cuz we're heading out tomorrow for 5 days on the beach. Looks like a nice unit!! Got the cover they promised as well. Oh initially they gave me a delivery time frame of Oct 11 - 16.
Take care.

Got it today. Ordered first thing Monday morning and it was waiting for me when I got home today (Friday). Time to visit my old friend the trailer again. Up. Down. Up. Down. Gotta install and test before our beach trip next weekend. Yeah, it's always beach season in SoCal.

F6bits... Wow that was quick. I ordered over the holiday, so that could be the difference. We are on the beach as we speak...got here Wednesday and leaving Sunday. Weather has been phenomenal. Ocean is warm. Swam out dove down n caught 3 legal lobster for dinner. Tomorrow I plan to go out n try to shoot a halibut for dinner. Lobster are easy Halibut are skittish. Hanging by the campfire now. Oh by the way the tongue jack ROCKS!!

I just installed it. Piece of cake. As many said, the wire is a little on the short side. Direct route reaches, but I plan to solder on more ten-gauge so I can route it neatly and add a nice connector end.

Question Which one?

Thank you in advance for the advice. Have my 2013 hideout 27rbs that weighs in at 6550 lbs. Should I get the VIP3500 or the deluxe 3500 high power? Does anyone know the price difference?

Thank you!

Jake

The High-Power looks to be about another $75. It’s just a nicer gear assembly that’s more efficient, and has a built-in cutoff switch. Capacity-wise, it’s the same as the VIP. I’d get the VIP. I know that the VIP has a two-year warranty. Old literature on the High-Power shows 1 year, but it could be 2. I doubt it’s more.

The 3500 is enough to lift the 1000 or so lbs on the tongue, plus another 2000 available to fiddle with your WD hitch.

Thanks for the heads up Mighty Ming. My driveway is so steep that to get my TT level my wife and I had to crank it up as far as possible, insert a 4 x 4 under the tongue, crank it down, install several 10 x 10 blocks of wood and then crank it back up again as far as it would go. We were wore out after all of the cranking! Saw your post and decided to call Barker. Drove out to the factory, about 5 miles from my home, and picked it up. The employees at Barker are really good people. It's been a life saver, especially the 24 inch lift. I will never be without one again.

Outstanding glad you got hooked up. I can see you're really extended there. Used mine officially for the first time this week at Carlsbad State Beach.... The DW loved just hitting switch. Gotta say she's a trooper and enjoys helping out. Truly nice to hookup the WD with little effort.

I've had mine for about a year now and I am SO GLAD I did it. I can't remember where I bought mine but it was not direct through Barker. I did call them at one point when I had heard that others got free covers and they wanted to charge me for mine. I suppose it's because I did not order direct from them. Some day I will buy a cover though.

I got the cover, but I'm not excited about it. 1) I think someone's gonna steal it. 2) It only covers the very top of the unit, and not the motor. I think I'll try to find a grocery-sized bag for it.

Another issue is the bubble level. The plastic housing rocks a little on the two mounting screws, so it's not such a stable level.

F6bits- I think the cover should be ok. Yes it can be easily stolen. Maybe that's why they sent me two covers.
As for the bubble level. I think its supposed to free float on the screws? I may be wrong tho.

I only got one cover. I like someone else's idea of making a custom cover. I suspect that the motor housing will yellow if exposed to too much sun.

Those three screws can be tightened down and adjusted to center the level. I'll see if I can tighten up the housing so it doesn't rock.
