TT Lock

I've had a few TT tongue locks and the "lock picking lawyer" has made me feel bad about all of them.

I have no skin in the game but I just ordered this lock.
Expensive, but then so is my traveling home.

I bought a tri max lock for my travel trailer, I saw how easy it was to pick so I ditched it and upped my insurance to cover ALL perils. Done. I keep a list at the work office of everything I have during storage and while away. My peace of mind.

In my opinion the best lock is a quality tire boot that also covers/protects the lug nuts. Much better than any coupler lock.

I can't help but to believe people making these kinds of choices either are "paranoid" or "live and camp in the wrong places"...

While we do lock our front storm door is we're in the back, we don't set bear traps and turn loose the dobermans to protect us against the kind of "assault" depicted in this thread.

If I felt the need to fortify in this manner, I'd first move to a safer neighborhood.

I use a Bolt brand padlock on the coupler latch and a Bolt brand receiver lock. They "learn" your truck key so no extra keys to carry. The MAIN purpose for both is to keep the objects from inadvertently opening or loosening and not for providing "ultra high security".

I believe they discourage theft but it would take more than it's worth, to me at least, to make any camper "theft proof".

Got to agree with JRTJH on this one...seems like a bit of paranoia. If someone wants something bad enough, they will find a way to get it...locks, no locks fence, wall or whatever... of course JMHO...

IMHO,it is easier to write a check for good insurance and then if the 'Suites' falls into nefarious hands I'll start with the usual "Hello, Geico? It's Jim again."
As y'all know I'm on a first name basis with them....

I have the same locks and appreciate having 2 less keys on the chain.

I keyed every lock on the trailer alike also. So I only need 2 keys, the truck ignition and the trailer key. When I bought the Bolt locks I went to Home Depot to get a copy of the truck key. The guy at HD didn't want to copy my truckl kley because iot wouldn't have the chip in it to start the truck. It took me 10 min. to explain to him that I was only going to add the key to my carabiner clip to unlock the Bolt lock. He had never heard of the Bolt lock so I had to show him on my phone, then he got it.

Anyway, with a separate carabiner clip I have the copied truck key, the trailer key and a copy of the key for my truck cap. 3 keys for everything to with camping. This was done so when I spot the trailer I can get out, open the bed cap to get the wheel chocks, and Anderson levelers if needed and unlock the hitch without shutting down the engine. It's made things a lot easier and quicker for me.

It's a generational thing. I have keys, I also know how to parallel park, read and write in cursive, find my way around (read a map and "dead reckon my flight path in an airplane) and find info without typing in Google first.

Heck, I can even go to a library and find information without using any electricity! I'm just a dinosaur I guess.

A lock (of any type) only helps to keep people honest. If someone wants your stuff bad enough, no lock will stop them, but a lock can be an inexpensive and effective deterrent in the majority of cases and might prevent someone from doing something just because they thought they could.

We had a rash of car “break-ins” in town a few years back. Not a single lock was forced or window broken. Only vehicles that were left unlocked were targeted. The thieves when caught tried the “but I didn’t break into anything” defense, which didn’t work against the theft by unauthorized taking charge. They said if a vehicle was locked, they went on to the next.

We had our 195RB stolen several years ago from behind our home. Check out Proven Industries trailer coupler locks to compare against your purchase if interested.
