Passport 2400BH w/ F-150

Is anyone pulling a Passport Grand Touring 2400BH with an F-150? Looking to pull the trigger on what and curious what others think of their experience.

Need more info!
GVW of rv, payload of truck would be best. Dry weight of rv & max tow of truck are of no use.

Truck payload info can be found on the driver's door of the truck. It varies depending on the installed items from the factory. Do not look at the numbers listed in the brochure or on line as they do not pertain to your truck. Those published numbers are a max number for a stripped down truck.

Based on that limited info, it would appear from looking at the Ford website that trucks with a payload in that range have a towing capacity of about 7600 lbs max. Less than 1000 lbs to spare. Probably do-able, but not ideal.

What year?

What engine?

Wheelbase?

Any factory towing package? (Extra cooling/tranny coolers/etc.)

Based on passed towing of a similar size and weight Passport with a Silverado 1500 with similar numbers it looks like you will be ok. Make sure you have a properly set up weight distribution hitch with sway control. Enjoy.

Our kids have this same Passport and pull with a 1/2 ton Tahoe. Not ideal but no towing issues. IMHO I think the 1/2 ton TV is a bit light. We did it with a similar sized Wildwood and an '03 F150.
After a couple of years we were able to move up to a 3/4 ton diesel. HUGE difference!!

Passport 2400BH w/f-150

I have the 2400 bh and I pull it with a Silverado 1500. It has little better axle my max tow is 9400 lbs. I would not want to tow that with much less. The old once you add your stuff, gas and passengers you will probably be little close to your max. More towing capacity is always better. You do what you are comfortable with.

Passport 2400BH and a 2016 F150

We have 2400BH and pull it with an F150 with eco-boost, max trailer tow package, and the extending tow mirrors. No problems.

Passport 2400BH w/Chevy Express

I have an 2001 Conversion Chevy Express 1500 - 5.7L with 3.77 rear ratio, 6400 lbs tow capacity.
Old van but working great, only 122k miles on it.
I used this summer for a week trip (~ 450 miles) and works very well ! 4 adults + 2 kids in van , +10 mpg.
I installed an oversize differential cover, with cooler profile to avoid over heating, put some oil additive Motorkote in transmission oil ( some porpose).
My intention is to install airbags on rear axle to help leaf springs (I noticed 1” lower position when trailer is attached).
I keep this van only for RV towing, normally we are only 4 and use to leave the last bench of van at home. Results in more available space and payload.
On the other hand - we don’t exceed 1000 lbs on weight over trailer dry weigh so we are under van tow capacity limit.

IMO I think the 2400 is a good match for a F150 with the tow package. With the 3.55 gears that is what you should have. Things you should consider though is your shocks, your tires and wdh with sway control. The F150 with the stock p tires have to much flex and the shocks a joke. I had pretty good performance pulling a 2670 with an Equalizer 4 pt. 10k hitch after the tire and shock upgrade but the truck felt at its limit and had to watch payload really close.

I have a 24BHSWE hideout that I used to pull with an F150 ecoboost. I found myself always worrying about being overweight, so I upgraded to an F250 Powestroke. It was worth it to me for the piece of mind.

I have a 2017 Passport 217M (very similar weight specs). I'm not sure how that compares to your trailer but I'm pulling mine with a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 2wd Hemi. My towing capacity is 8260lbs and it pulls it very well. We are using a Fastway E2 sway/weight distribution system and it works very well. My weak link is an addon class 3 reciver that actually twists when I bear the tension of the E2 on it. I'm planning on welding it in to get that to stop. Hope this helps.

Bouleyfamily,

The class III receivers are typically rated for 6000 pounds trailer weight and 600 pounds tongue weight without weight distribution.

They normally are rated 10000 pounds/1000 pounds with weight distribution.

The data for your specific receiver should be stamped on the receiver or posted on a decal/plate attached to the receiver. If you can't find the data, if you can locate the receiver part number, your RAM dealership parts department can get the specifications for your receiver with that part number or with the VIN if the receiver is OEM.

At any rate, NEVER should a receiver "twist or bend" during hookup. If yours is doing that, then I'd urge you to find out what's wrong before towing again. It sounds like either attachment bolts are loose or a weld is broken. I'd make getting the receiver inspected a priority before towing again !!!

If that receiver twists, at all, don't even think about putting the weight of a trailer tongue on it - you've got a serious, dangerous problem.

If it were me, I would take that Class III off (since it is apparently semi bolted on) and replace it with a Class IV and get some relief on weight limitations. I don't know who installed your "add on" receiver but when you put that new Class IV on have a qualified shop install it. I've only had 2 after market receivers installed on trucks, both by specialized hitch shops, and had nary a problem with them. Again, you have a MAJOR problem that need immediate attention.

Edit: whoops, looks like I was trying to type while John was posting about the same thing.

Yup, two posting the same "DANGER".... A loose or twisting/moving receiver is an accident waiting for a victim..... Hopefully this one will get fixed before anyone gets hurt !!!!!

I am very well aware that I have an issue with my receiver. I probably shouldn't have even brought it up considering that my reciver issue has nothing to do with the advise the orginal poster was looking for. I guess since it's been brought up I'll elaborate. My reciver is a bolt on to the factory reciver and I do have plans on swapping in a class V. The issue I had was the 2 bolts started getting pulled through the backside of the add on because my weigh distribution system lifts the rear of the truck. I did temporarily fix the issue so I could get my trailer back to the place I park it until I get the new reciver ordered and installed.

Thanks for elaborating. Your situation sounded, and still does, like it needs immediate attention if you are towing.

Looking at the pics I'm not sure what the "add on" to a factory Class III did, or was supposed to do. I see where it was twisting the bolts; I see where those washers won't in any way give you a secure towing platform for anything of any weight. I've also never seen a factory receiver "twist"....period, much less let an add on plate like that twist the bolts.

Keep in mind that you have a 2wd Ram 1500 that comes standard with a Class III (and the suspension that goes with it). Upgrading to a Class V on that truck is a waste of money and only provides false security.

I know it was unintentional, but, IMO, it was a good thing you posted about your receiver. Not trying to find fault or shoot choices down or anything else; just wish to make sure you stay safe and find a more acceptable choice for your receiver that fits your load and your truck.
