curt 5th wheel, sloppy

So I recently purchased a new 5th wheel camper. Knowing I was going to trade up to the 5th wheel I put a Curt 16K slider in my 2500 ram. So this weekend we went down to get our new Keystone Hideout (about 9,100 pds) After hooking up and heading home we got stuck in traffic. While in stop and go traffic my first problem begins, There is play in the slider itself. I could see that it was safe but yet enough play that I could feel it push forward and pull backwards as I drove. I don't think its the head but im not 100 percent since I was doing the driving. I eventually turned the trailer brakes down so that they weren't grabbing and making the slider pull backwards at the touch of the pedal. I did get the 5th wheel slider used from someone I know that only used it a handful of times. Its clean, rust free and not even a year old. Maybe the handle itself needs replacing so there is less play in the notch that locks it front and rear. Im not sure so looking to some experts. Thanks in advance

I run that hitch. The "clunking" for mine is the hitch in the bedrails. A miniscule amount of play becomes a loud noise when it's being made by something that weighs thousands of pounds. It's the nature of that hitch, nothing unsafe, just the way it is.

Put a mor-ryde pin box on your trailer and I bet alot of the clunking goes away. I did on my trailer and notice a big difference in stop and go driving.

My hitch does the same thing (Reese PRO Series slider). It all depends on how the bed rails were installed. I purposely mounted mine about 1/16" inch closer then the Reese directions because I had a bit of slop noise in my last truck. It makes the hitch a little more difficult to drop in but is less noisy. I still have the clunk but not as bad as my last truck.
It is the nature of the beast and won't hurt anything.
