First trip with new trailer
Well not really the first trip but the first of much distance. From eastern PA to Seneca Rocks WV. A three hundred mile drive.
TV - 2011 Suburban 2500
TT - 2014 Keystone 3290
WD - Reese Dual Cam
With the water tank full it was a good trip to check the weights so I went to the Cat Scale on the way out. With myself, the wife, three kids one of the two dogs and some firewood in two crates I have the weight in the TV around 800.
Front Axle = 3420
Drive Axle = 4940
Trailer(total) = 6840
Total = 15,200
This means I have 800 lb left before I hit the combined 16,000 lb limit. But I only have about 240 lb before i hit the GVWR of 8600. I have to get to the scale without the trailer to verify but I expect tongue weight of 930 to 980. Just under the suburbans limit of 1000 with WD.
With the reese dual cam (1200 lb bars) I am able to keep the wheel wells as follows.
Front 36" empty, 38.5" with just the ball, 36.5 with WD
Rear 39", 36", 37.5 respectively
Sway is strong at times when being passed by or passing large trucks. It took a few hours but I found myself cruising at up to 70 and a few times up to 75. 75 was still manageable but I always dialed it back when i found my
self up that high.
Gas mileage was a bit hard to take at 7.1 mpg but the trip is constant hills or mountains. On my beach trips to NC I only average about 13 or 13.5 highway with no trailer.
Well that got a bit long but I tried to include all of the information I have. I have spent sevral weeks over two smaller trips trying to dial in my WD set up as I know I am near the limits of my vehicle. I am confident I have a good and safe set up at this point. TV to TT length (wheelbase) is the only thing I was afraid of but I am glad to report the sway was there but not a problem.
Any comments or concerns are appreciated and I hope this information can help others
