Gooseneck to 5th wheel?

I'm in the market for a 5th wheel hitch setup
My truck already has the turn over gooseneck ball installed

I'm wondering if buying the B &W or Andersen type 5th wheel adaptor
for my gooseneck hitch
Is the best way to go or should I just buy the standard 5th wheel hitch

The questions I have are;

1) Are the trailer ball adaptors that convert 5th wheel pin to fit the gooseneck trailer ball in the bed of the truck as easy to hitch up/unhitch
as the regular 5th wheel hitch?

2) Are there any issues with ball type gooseneck / 5th wheel hitches as far as hitching/unhitching
when on unlevel ground?

3) is the trailer ball gooseneck/5th wheel setup as stable and strong as the
regular 5th wheel setup?

Just curious about this before I buy my hitch

Thanks

Hawk

We have installed a few goose neck pin boxes and it seems like they hook up fairly easy.

If your buying a new unit and the frame is lippert, make sure you buy a goose box approved by them so you don't void the warranty. IIRC Reese is the only one at the moment.

We have the B&W gooseneck turnover ball & bought the B&W adapter to go with it. We really like it so far. No issues with hooking up or unhooking. Not sure what your current gooseneck hitch is, but like chuckster said, make sure it is compatible.

I have heard that a 5th wheel tows smoother than a gooseneck. But I have never towed with gooseneck.

My Thanks to all of you for your input!!!

I called the folks at B&W today and discussed my questions and concerns
They are great folks and very knowledgeable and helpful

I've decided to go with their Companion 5th Wheel Hitch that matches up great with my existing B&W gooseneck turnover hitch

"The Companion, with it's single-point-attachment, utilizes the B&W Turnoverball under-bed mounting system. The Turnoverball works as a gooseneck hitch as well. "

One more thing to cross off our list

Life is good!!

Just a late note...if you have a short bed pickup you might want to rethink the ball hitch and go for a slider. Just say'in. Happy Pulling.

Thanks
But the new hitch isn't a ball hitch, the gooseneck ball is removed
and this Companion 5th wheel has an insert
That goes into the receiver where the ball was

Looks like a good setup for me

I think you're on the right track. With the Cougar XLite front cap, there's virtually no need for a sliding hitch. Those days are fast disappearing. You should be able to get to near 90 degrees without any difficulty. The bigger "threat" is keeping at least 6" of space between the truck bed rails and the lower part of the trailer overhang. It's much easier to lay the trailer on the top of the truck bedrail than it is to hit the cab with the new Cougar front caps.

You'll be fine without a slider.

You will thank yourself for getting the B&W companion hitch. SO much easier to hook up. I have a 5th wheel flatbed trailer besides having a 5th wheel camper and the camper is so much easier to hook up with the companion hitch.

I have the Companion with mine and it works great. Quiet and smooth with easy hookups and removal from truck when not in use.
