I think the way you use the Camco 55306 is to plug it in and discoverer electrical issues prior to connecting your trailer. Once connected, it serves as only a surge protector and if there is an issue with the pedestal power, your trailer's electrical would fry. ) it disconnects power if it's below 102v or above 132. Also has a delay to reconnect. So while it doesn't disconnect for wiring faults it is more than just surge protection.
