how to get fresh water into the fresh water tank

Thank you to all of you who participate in this forum it is very helpful. This week we took our new 24RKSWE out for a week long trip. By day six I needed to put more fresh water into the freshwater tank. Obviously lifting a heavy water container trying to hold the funnel into the fresh water tank hole and pouring was difficult to say the least. Have any of you come up with a better idea that will put the water from a container into the fresh water tank and still be safe for drinking etc.

After boondocking at Quartzsite in January, and fellow RVers helping out, the method used was a 45 gallon bladder, http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...45-gallon/1605 , and a water pump from Harbor Freight, http://www.harborfreight.com/12-volt...ump-94639.html , and whatever method suits your situation for connecting the 12 volt pump to your 12 volt power point, was the best method I found. I purchased a plug to fit the trailer receptacle on the pickup, and wired the pump to the plug, through a switch. As long as you have a good source for water, this works great.

I will second the 12v pump and water bladder idea. Years ago we had a deer camp that had 3 trailers in it, no water. We would haul water in. We used 55 gallon plastic barrels and had a 12v pump mounted on a board in the back of the truck. They make manual pumps too, but for more than 20 gallons or so they get to be a pain.

I made up a small watger transfer pump a couple of years back. Previous with our pop ups the water intake housing was low enough it would allow us to pour with a funnel from a 20 litre blue container into the water holding tank. With our new TT the water intake was probably a foot higher making it quite difficult to fill the holding tank. I used a group 27 battery box, a small garden tractor battery and a 12 volt RV water pump. Wired everything up and mounted inside the box with a switch. I added a couple of quick connects to the water pump and when needed I add a length of hose to the intake and discharge side of the pump. When required I stick the intake hose into my blue jug sitting on the ground and the discharge hose into the water intake on the trailer. Hit the switch and open another pop. Takes about three minutes to empty the jug into the trailer.
Two others that we camp with have since made up the same type pumps. They work well. The nice thing is they are compact and everything is contained inside the battery box. Sorry no pictures.

I use a pump that looks exactly like the one bobbecky linked to except mine is 120 volts AC. I power it with my little Honda 1000W generator.

I carry 2 blue plastic 6-gal jugs.

As long as I can charge my battery I use the 3-way "winterization" valve.

This is the kit I installed on our rig last year ... Camco 36543 Pump Converter Winterizing Kit.

1. Make pick up tube long enough to reach ground level.
2. Fill jug/bucket/container with water.
3. Attach outside "shower" to quick connect and attach the male threaded end to the water fill gravity port.
4. Turn on on-board water pump.
5. Open outside shower COLD water valve and let the water flow.

It works great and I don't have to carry anything extra and it only cost me a few dollars extra for the longer tubing.

Just jerry-rig a cheap bilge pump from a marine store or wally world and pump it from whatever storage you have.
