Cargo- front baggage doors
My 13 Passport rk3100
The front cargo doors are getting soft at the bottom.
Water wicked up.
Figures they are not sealed edges at the aluminum
Banding around them.
Has anyone built there own Replacements?
Not completely gone but just a matter of time.

Most are 2 pieces of very thin fiberglass with styrofoam sandwiched between wrapped with an aluminum frame, not sure why it would be soft.

I just replaced mine
I had the same thing happen with both my baggage doors. I replaced them in the early spring as I failed to find a way to repair them. I believe the water is entering through the holes where the locks are and is wicking upward to cause the rotting of the core.
I had to buy two new 30x16 door assemblies, that's the door and frame. I did not replace the frame, the old door slid off and I slid the new door on and it seems to have taken care of the problem for now.
It's aggravating to have to be constantly repairing poorly constructed components on our RV's. I spend more time and money maintaining it than using it .

I need to repair mine also. I'll surgically disassemble them, replace the core with the purple styrofoam and reassemble. I think the door "sandwich" includes luan plywood and this is what rots. I'll try to remove any wood from the luan and just go all foam, then seal it all up.

I'll have to put this on the checklist to inspect sealing...

I would say the locks and the frame. I have found no sealant on mine at all. It should be fairly easy to separate the frame once the rivets are drilled out.
If simply replacing it with a new door, make sure you seal everything well so it does not happen again. This is also happening to my large outdoor kitchen door.

Baggage doors
Thanks for the responses everyone.
I was thinking Azek type PVC 3/4 INCH sheet & cut new ones using old as a template.
This will eliminate any possible water damage in the future.
2 x 4 ft. Piece is around $50 from Lowes.
Cheaper than replacement from Keystone.
So $100 fixed forever.
Thanks again for your input.

Would you still be able to keep the filon outer layer with 3/4" thickness PVC? The PVC may get discolored/oxidized from the sun. You could paint the PVC if an issue.

Camp n Brew
The Azek & other brands PVC trim lumber & Sheet goods are made for exterior trim on Homes.
They are UV stabilized.
Used it many times for trim.
20ish year no fade or discoloration.
It also can be painted.

I remembered this post when I went to work on my trailer today. I'm replacing the cargo locks with the tubular cam locks. (got the wrong size so have to return/replace another day).
I had inspected the sealing of my doors after reading this "just to make sure" and the seams looked good/perfect. However, in disassembling the locking mechanism, these are NOT sealed and there are signs of some water intrusion. I've caught this, but will take apart all the latches and seal these sometime in the next week.
