Your MP5000 looks very similar to my AWM950, I think that you can feed your tv sound output to the Jensen surround sound aux input with a special cord. The MP5000 manual does show an input for this. If you don't have the manual you can get it here: http://www.asaelectronics.com/manuals-guides look for the MP5000 in the list.

I connected our tv to the stereo to try and get regular tv channels to come through the stereo speakers and with some channels it works fine but with others it doesn't. I still haven't figured out why yet. I've talked to several people about this and even called ASA and no one could really give me an answer. When I play a DVD or a CD or even just a radio station it works fine. It's just over the air tv channels that give me the problem. Not sure if it might be the difference between analog and digital signals.

On some tvs you have to set the audio output in the on-screen toolbox. You may not have power to the output your using. Look for "Simulated stereo ... our something similar" each brand uses a different name. Sometimes it can be set for each channel on the remote.
