Depends on your 5er.
There are a lot of fifth wheels that can be towed by an SRW TV. There are also many that DRW is almost required (according to the weight police) and I agree.
My 5er has a max of 13K and the numbers align with my tow capability and overall weights. Anything bigger and I will be in DRW territory.
I do not know what the magic number is for the breaking point between SRW or DRW. Most commentary on here suggest anything over 14K should be DRW. Although I have seen a lot of 250/2500 pulling 14K plus fifth wheels. That's a separate thread .
At least if you are going with a SRW get a one ton.

DRW vs. SRW depends on GVWR of the TV. If a single rear wheel has the axle/weight capacity to carry the cargo, people, fuel and pin weight, then by all means get a single rear wheel truck.

If not then a DRW is needed, simple as that.

Helpful to know what 5er you have!!
Also posting the max GVWR, dry weight tells us nothing, of your RV would be helpful. You'll find this # on the manufacturer label on the drivers side front corner of the RV.

Well a DRW will future proof you if you decide to get a larger 5er in the future. DW and I full time and our 2016 Ram 3500 DRW CC LB is our only vehicle, will it fit in spaces like a Smart Car, heck no, but I can got through many drive troughs, parking garages and parking lots. Towing with a DRW is more stable. It has been said you can never have too much truck, that is mostly true.
Our 5er is just under 13,000#, we tow in the past with a 2001 Ram 2500, towed fine, felt stable, well no comparison to the new rig.
It would be nice to know what size 5er you are looking at.
