Wheel Help

I had a blow out with the blowmax tires and want to replace with Maxxis. The current tires are 225/75R15 E rated. The rims are stamped with max load of 2600lbs. They are arcwheel DOT MXM 6JX15 04 09 04 max load 2600lbs is what is stamped on the rim. they are 6 on 5.5 lugs.

What I need to know and am unable to find out, is will these rims take 80lbs pressure for an E rated tire or can I run a lesser amount, say 70lbs and be OK.

The dry weight on the trailer is 9240 with a payload of 2445. It came with D rated tires but were replace by the last owner with the E rated Towmaxx.

Thanks,

Glen

Call the wheel factory or distributor and ask.
Might look on eTrailer.com to see if there is such a wheel.
My Tredit wheel folks told me to not run mine over the E rated 80psi.

I agree, call the wheel manufacturer - but, our spare steel wheel was stamped 2600# and was rated at 65 PSI max for a LRD tire. To mount a 10 ply rated tire we had to upgrade to a wheel rated at 2830#/80PSI. If your current tires are load range E, and you are running 80 PSI, I think you are over your wheels' rated weight/PSI capacity.

I have had good luck with the tire rack when I had my Toy Hauler and it was heavy. Before I got the tires from Tire Rack I had 2 year old tires per the date on the tires and I had 3 blowouts in less than 400 miles. My size was the same as your.

And now I also run Tireminder so I won't lose a wheel like I did or a fender on the trailer.

At 70 psi a ST225/75R16 carries 2,620 lbs.
You are fine at 70 psi.

Hard to believe that a trailer with that empty weight and gross weight didn't come with 80 PSI capable wheels and LRE tires. As a comparison, my SRX advertised empty/gross weights are 9500/12,600. Pretty close to your specs. Might be worth it buying 80 PSI wheels if yours aren't.

Mine are 15". I looked for the information you shared but could not fine a table with the specs. If it's available I's like to know where I could.

Thanks, Glen

That's what you would think. I tried to contact the manufacturer but only came up with China info. I sent an email but they sent me back the price of the rims and no other info.

Does anyone know how I can find out if they will hold 80lbs?

Don't know who manufactures your wheels. Mine are Tredit. If you go on their website, they have a chart that shows weight ratings/PSI ratings.
Redneck Trailer Supply also has a listing in their wheels catalog that shows the ratings. I purchased a new steel wheel for my spare. It is a Dexter wheel and is rated at 2830#/80 PSI
