Back in 2006 Diesel fuel was $1 less than gasoline. I wish someone could explain why it's so much more now.

He runs a fleet of 12 of his own diesel Fuel Oil Trucks from the same pump, so I'm sure it'll not be a problem!

Fortunately, we're 5 miles from the RI/CT border. I haven't bought so much as a thimble full of diesel in CT in 30 years. In addition to a sales tax on diesel, there is a 9 cent per gallon surcharge on diesel in CT to make up for the 18's that blow thru without fueling up (its only 140 miles from RI to NJ, the local truckers suck it up for road repairs)! RI=$3.09 // CT= $3.29+/-, no thanks! Same for the wife's Explorer, RI $2.79 // CT $2.90 +/-...!

p.s Liquor is cheaper in RI too! HIC!

Good Luck,

IFTA. The trucks roll thru but some money sticks.

Simply put... supply and demand. There is generally little (or no) excess diesel hydrotreating capacity to produce ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) and the amount of diesel produced from crude oil is limited. U.S. petroleum refineries produce an average of 11-12 gallons of diesel fuel from each 42-gallon (U.S.) barrel of crude oil. Whereas 19-20 U.S. gallons of gasoline is derived from 42-U.S.-gallon barrel of crude oil.

Also in the US diesel excise tax is 24.4 cents per gallon vs. gasoline at 18.4 cents per gallon.

RI just dropped 10 cents a gallon at my fill up spot! Now $2.999 per gallon

There are cheaper prices as low as $2.799, but my guy runs a fleet of 10 trucks of his own. Makes a difference to me here in coasts New England.,where it is either cold and / wet., or even both the same day . Fresh, clean, winterized diesel is a must have.

For those passing thru, fuel up before crossing into CT. The fuel taxes are higher, and there is a 10 cent per gallon surtax on diesel Last time I checked $3.2999 per gallon

Good Luck,

$2.17 in Chattanooga two weeks ago, $2.61 in Orlando yesterday. So in all reality they're just making marine diesel follow the same regs as diesel cars and trucks here in the states now.

I think another factor is that diesel remains primarily a freight fuel. Freight and delivery services have for many years at least since the '08 recession, when fuel costs skyrocketed, charged a fuel surcharge. Therefor freight companies only care minimally about the cost since they simply pass it along to us. Plus, they have to continue to operate operate or loose business. Personal use vehicles (mostly gas powered) have the option of reduced driving/trips to alleviate higher gas prices. Lower the demand, get lower prices once there is a surplus supply.

Been pretty stable at the end of the road in Deadhorse $5.19 a gallon. Yes it comes out of the ground here, but the closest refinery is 800 miles away and ULSD has to be trucked back up to the oil field.

$2.21 at the WalMarts in Dothan AL and to think I just filled the truck, aux tank too, a few days ago at $2.38. Another discussion but unless I'm in a bind I don't go to truck stops and their "boutique diesel".

I put a 51g aux tank in the Ram, 46 usable, which lets me choose and plan my stops. I have to factor in the weight and loss of cargo capacity but I'm good with that.
