What the heck is this?

Recently bought a 2017 Premier 29RKPR. While doing a walkaround I saw this and have no idea what it is. 1st picture is a close up, second is for location view. Any help????

It looks like a 2 pole 12V connector. I have one hooked on my battery of my ATV that came with the trickle charger I bought for it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just a guess, but it looks like a jack to attach a self-standing portable solar panel, one that just sits on the ground, not attached to the roof the camper. What's on the other side of that beam? Wires, hoses? tubes? can you tell if wires lead to your house battery?

I'd guess that it's the solar port for an aftermarket system...

That said, on a previously owned trailer, it could be anything from a "cheater connection for a trickle charger" to a "12 VDC outlet for a trouble light" or even a connection for a "hard wired TPMS harness repeater" or even a socket to plug in a set of "purple dancing lights"...

Owners have some very unique and sometimes very strange ways of doing things that "make sense to them" BUT TO NOBODY ELSE !!!

Whatever it is, it sure doesn't look like anything OEM that I've seen.

My solar connection is about where his is on my Passport... just a bit away from the battery box and breakers...

Beware that you should check polarity before plugging a solar charge controller into that. My brand new Aspen Trail was reverse polarity from every single other device that I have with that plug and I fried the controller when I plugged it in.

I will check it out with my multimeter to see what it shows. Thanks for all the replys. Would be interesting if it is for a solar panel. I was planning of adding that. To be continued....

I am 99.9% sure it is a portable solar port. It will NOT have a controller and they are generally only rated for 10W if I remember.

It is a Zamp type socket. Yes, mine was wired backwards also but my solar briefcase was equipped with an adapter to reverse polarity. It looks like the cover is compromised. If so you should find a way to prevent water infiltration and corrosion.

They are called SAE cables or connectors. Here's a bunch on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/sae-cable/s?k=sae+cable Typically some "solar ready" campers sold had them mounted there for the briefcase solar cells with a built in charge controller. It may or may not be connected to the battery, some were installed with the battery side just hanging.

If you get a solar charger check the polarity of the charger and the trailer connector to see if they are the same. It's easy enough to change the polarity and they do sell cables to reverse the polarity. That plug also makes a handy power outlet if you want to plug in a phone charger, or landscaping lights. Just don't exceed the fuse with load you place on it.

Yup...after further inspection it actually says Solar Prep on it. Didn't see that before I cleaned it off. It is connected to the battery. I do plan on adding a panel or two in the future however I probaby won't use this connection. Will do a dedicated line to the battery and use a controller. Recently did this to my daughers RV. They really like it.

Solar connector, but wired backwards from what you might expect. Best bet is to ignore it and install your own.

Looks like you need some mudflaps, stone catchers, or rock guards etc. Just an observation since the "what is this" was answered.

Yes I agree. I do have mud flaps on my truck. Apparently the previous owner didn't.

It's the connection for portable solar. I have a 2017 29rkpr, but I added a zamp solar system with 2 panels permanently installed on the roof along with controller inside. More expensive than the portable, but I don't have to hook it up each time.

On my 19' Bullet there is an identical connector. It is 12V DC (test it to confirm), prewired for solar panels; however, on mine I could not find that it was connected to a solar charge controller, so I just ignored it and wired my own charge controller.

Put a 12V Power meter on it to determine if DC voltages is present. As well determine the + & - polarity pin out.
Most likely it is where a solar panel with charge controller plugs in.

If it’s a ZAMP solar plug, they used reverse polarity from everyone else.

If no volts are present, then previous owner may hav disconnected it going to the battery.
