I want to get the spare out of the front compartment

My rig came with the spare tire mount in the front compartment which eats up a ton of basement storage space which is very limited on my floorplan.

That being said I am thinking about moving it to a bottom side mount, and at this time I am thinking under the same compartment but I do have the JT Strongarms which would have to be accounted for.

Has anyone done this and if so, how did you go about it?

Other better options?

Don't have a rear bumper but do have a cargo hitch not rated for towing. The price of these hitch mounted spare tire carriers is out of this world for what they are.

The BAL looks interesting at ~$125 delivered. The DW is getting tired of my RV upgrades! $$$$$

My Avalanche came with a under the unit spare carrier, it isn't the BAL and I'm not sure a BAL would work on this trailer... The one I have is just a simple cable and crank... I had it down Saturday to check the tire pressure and put a sending unit on it for my TPMS.. taking it down was a snap, cranking it back up I gave up on the supplied crank handle and brought out my 1/2" drive ratchet... much easier

If you are handy and can do minor fabricating, go to a junk yard and get the crank up section from under a pickup for the spare. In this case, old bedframes are your friend.

Another alternative: If "cheap" is the mantra, since you have a 2" receiver on the rear of the trailer, there are spare tire carriers on EBay for $65, complete with an anti-rattle attachment to keep the "stinger" from bouncing inside the receiver tube... https://www.ebay.com/i/284043966463?...nd%3DUnbranded

Just put the spare in the bed of your pick up. Should fit even with a fifth wheel.

Not with all the other “essential” stuff!

BAL hide a spare was easy to install behind the rear axel. It works great and is easy to use [have only used it to check the air in the spare] It was also a good price from Amazon.ca delivered. Check in the modification forums I found a video there of a home install with great info. Good Luck!

Look on Autoanything.com. I paid just under $100 for the hitch mount as an immediate solution.

I plan on switching to under-mount BAL slider. It should fit nicely on our units right in front of the wheels (like under water heater area). I have BAL Lock-arms, they won't even be close.

Getting spare out added TONS of room - now our chairs fit!

I also took out the 2nd battery box. I don't see us doing much dry camping, so no real need. I put battery in the "outboard" box.

One thing I learned with my BAL Hide-a-spare is that you should use bolts and nuts. Not just self drilling screws. I started with the self drillers and noticed that I had a few that the heads sheared off with the bouncing that the trailer does. The shear strength of the bolts is much better.

I used the BAL hide a spare. I second the use of bolts, washers, and nuts. It was an easy install.

I resisted the spare under the trailer for years. I didn't like the idea of rolling around in the mud under the trailer. When we got the Landmark I told the dealer to remove the BAL under mount carrier and put the spare in the cargo bay. I really didn't think the spare would clear the incline from the the street up my steep driveway. I later realized it would clear easily. I had the BAL stored outdoors and would spray some lube on it occasionally. When I finally decided to install it, it was locked up. No amount of penetrant or hammering would unlock the "tube in a tube" slide. So I bought a new one. I replaced all the cheap bolts and nuts with stainless steel and used SS nylock nuts. Also lubed it well with WD40 Specialist with PTFE.
I don't think Keystone sells a trailer with 17.5" tires but if you have them you better eat your Wheaties before trying to get that steel spare wheel and that 16ply tire off that rack. I'm carrying a section of 2" steel pipe for a pry bar.

My tire was bumper mounted and I wanted to put a bike rack on the bumper. I got a winch up tire mount and just bolted it into the floor of the front compartment. My emergency handle for the slide fit the winch perfectly so I did not need another handle. The winchup tire mount was $45 at my local RV dealer.

Seems the Bal Hide a Spare has gone AWOL across the country. Anyone know where to get one without paying twice or more what they are worth?
