2018 Cougar 30RLS Reviews PLEASE!

I'm brand new to this forum.
I have never pulled an RV.
Downsizing it ALL and planning to go full-time with spouse by Christmas.
Towing with at 2014 Silverado 2500 HD 6.0L gas short bed.
We put a deposit down on a 2018 Cougar 30RLS fifth wheel today.
How did we do?
Any chronic issues I need to be aware of?
How do you like your 30RLS? Any specific helpful tips & techniques.
All input GREATLY appreciated, positive & negative.

Oh, also, the RV needs a mattress. What is the mattress size for this unit and what brand, style, and comfort level do you recommend for this RV?

Welcome aboard! Cougar is a good brand and if you did a good job with a PDI then there shouldn't be any big surprises. First thing I would do is check the tires. If they are original then they are overdue to replace. But don't just go out and get whatever the local tire shop recommends. Depending on what size they are you'll want to consider Goodyear Endurance, Carlisle, or Sailun.

Just make sure you know how everything works and make sure that it does, in fact, work.

This is a good place to ask specific questions. Many things are not specific to just one brand or model so someone will have a helpful answer.

Thank You & More Info

Jeff & Sandi,

Thank you for your response. I am having an NRVIA inspection of the unit prior to final purchase decision. Tires are Carlisle Radial Trail HD ST225/75R15 manufacture code is "3818" with less than 10K miles.

Recommendation on aftermarket TPMS for the trailer? Tow vehicle already has TPMS.

Smart, an inspection should prove helpful and glad to see that someone has already upgraded the tires to something more reliable.

There are several good choices for TPMS. I only have experience with the Tire Minder TMG400 with the signal booster. It's not fancy or color but it tells me what I need to know.

TST507 is a great TPMS, user replaceable batteries, no booster needed (at least not with my long bed CC dually & 40' 5th wheel) & they have great customer service if needed.
BTW, welcome aboard!

Welcome to the forum! On the bed just measure it. It most likely will be an odd ball size but maybe it came with a residential queen standard (our Cougar High Country did - 60x80).

My '15 333MKS came with a residential queen 60 x 80 also.. but after seeing the 70 x 80 king in the Avalanche Which by the way... no one makes one for sale, not even Lippert; who sold the one in my Avalanche to Keystone..

The only way to know for sure is a tape measure...

We have a 2019 30rls and we love it. The one thing we did ask for when we got our fifth wheel was an auto slider hitch. We have a standard 6.0 bed on our F250 and I was concerned about the RV possibly hitting the cab when making sharp turns. We upgraded to the auto slider hitch and it works great, you never have to worry about forgetting to release the hitch on tight turns.

Oh as for the mattress, we ordered a 10 inch queen size memory foam mattress in a box and it worked great and sleeps very well. When we are at home my wife always jokes about going out to the RV to get a good nights sleep.

I had an RV queen mattress originally but put a full queen in its place. Was a little longer so I put a piece of plywood under it so where it hung off the end, it didn't droop. The TPMS you get may not be one of the ones folks are recommending. Like many RV related products, they are in short supply. At least one that was recommended won't work on your RV if you have load range E tires inflated to 80 PSI. I ended up buying an off brand recently just because of availability. You will also want an EMS (electrical management system). This is a crucial piece of equipment to safeguard your electrical systems. If you are camping in the winter, you will also want a heated water hose and learn how your propane regulator works right away.

We love our 30RLS, we did find the single A/C didn't do a great job cooling the bedroom. After checking the vents to make sure they were hooked up correctly we put a second unit on for the bedroom. If you do that make sure to get a low profile. The only other thing done so far are self leveling jacks.
