Up on the roof top

I have a Bullet 248RKS and have a question about being on top of the roof for cleaning, maintenance, and installing a winter cover. Do I need to lay down a sheet of plywood to distribute weight when I need to go on the roof or can I just stand on it with no extra support?

Hi! I have the same TT and yes I use a couple of pieces of plywood, 2x2, and a boat cushion for my knees when up on the roof. Be careful when moving the items so as to not damage the roofing material. Try to place the plywood between the trusses. I would not recommend that you stand up without support under you. I hope you are enjoying the Bullet. We love ours. Hope this helps you. Jim

Your question gives us only a part of what should be addressed when considering climbing onto the roof of any RV.

Protecting the roof structure from "excessive weight" is strongly recommended, even on "walkable roof structures".....

That said, much of the decision has to rest with you. If you're 5'10" and weigh 160 pounds versus if you're 6'4" and weigh 350 pounds the roof safety differs significantly. So, not only should you "consider using plywood or rigid foam sheeting" to distribute your body weight, you should also consider your body weight and whether or not you should even be on the roof of any travel trailer.

A "walkable roof" doesn't mean that "anybody is OK getting on the roof".....
