I see you tow a Fuzion with a 2008 Duramax. How is that going?

It's not about how much you can pull. Your max towing is determined by the GCWR minus the trucks actual weight. The GCWR is determined by the entire package, suspension, axles, gears, etc. Your concern is how much load you're putting on the axles, wheels, lugs. If you overload that you could break wheel studs, crack a rim, bust a spring, bend the frame, the list goes on

I used to have a 08 2500 CC standard bed and my payload was around 2300 pounds. I'm just spitballing it but that raptor is going to be quite a ways over that. you have plenty of towing capacity just no payload for that fiver. if you haven't signed the paperwork on the truck go find a bigger one if you already own the trailer.

The truck I own already it's the trailer that I haven't signed final paperwork for. The 5er is a Raptor 300Mp which is their smallest model with a pin weight of 2800lbs.

I see your in Ca. Are you aware of the special license/endorsement to tow that much?
CHP is starting to look at us RVers as an untapped revenue source. They can and will pull up next to you on the road, signal you to pull over and then:
Ask for your license. Then they will open your drivers door and look at the tag listing rear axle weight rating. Once they have that they whip out the handy dandy portable scale and weigh it. OVER by 1 lb will get your trailer impounded on the spot. You pay impound fees, towing fees and can't get it back until you show up with a vehicle rated for it. My BIL watched it happen.

I believe I will still fall under this category since I do not have any toys and I am not towing with water.
5th-wheel travel trailer exceeding 10,000 lbs. but not exceeding 15,000 lbs. GVWR, when towing is not for compensation.

Just a heads up. The license/endorsement requirement are based on the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of your trailer, not on its actual weight. The sticker on the road side of your trailer will have the GVWR listed. Also, check the DMV website. It states that you can tow a 5th wheel trailer that is over 10,000# but under 15,000# with the endorsement
What is the GVWR of your trailer?

Only way to know what you can "get away with" is to load sox and shorts, etc... and have a dually pull you across the scales...
Sorry, but I'm betting that even that extra can of tuna will mess u up! What's the chances of a "permanent" site? At least till you can match a horse to the cart, or pull empty, with a chase car carrying the GOODS?!

I'm walking.. And I'd reference the fact that your sales guy told you that your 3/4 ton could pull it and that you didn't need a license change... (which generally what they say, but I'm guessing)
Pin weight is a problem. No one buys a toy hauler and drives it without any water, food, or toys indefinitely. It might actually be better to tow it with toys as it'd lower that pin weight.
Can you do it? Sure. It'll pull it and stop it. Other people do it. However, get into an accident that you've overloaded your truck and you're not properly licensed, which is a lot of liability...
And CA is one of the stricter states about license enforcement.

I have one more camping trip this year. Maybe I'll just go through with it and start looking for a 3500 Duramax.
Anybody interested in a 2008 Chevrolet Duramax LTZ 4x4 with the Z71 package....with only 60k miles?

I did the same thing. Figured I could pull with a 3/4 ton and bought a fairly large cart, right on the edge of my truck ratings. Pulled the 5er twice and realized I was sadly mistaken. Now I have a comfortable trip with the 1 ton and am nowhere close to maxed out. Stay safe and legal and you won't regret it.

I drove 1000 miles to Ft worth for a 2013 40 k mile Duramax SRW and DRW did not exist with low mileage. I'm 2700 lbs for pin weight just legal with the Harley in the garage took some some weight off, with 110 gals of water adds some weight on the Cat scale.

Kojak, I feel like I'm probably preaching to the choir at this time in this conversation, but add this to it. Your pin weight is about 2800 dry, your truck has a cargo capacity of 2300. You are already 500 in the dumps and you haven't added you and momma (400), your hitch (150), fuel (200), and the thermos of coffee (3). Get my drift? The license requirement of California I know nothing about. But seeing bodacious toy haulers going 75 down the interstate being towed by 3/4 ton trucks I do know a little about. And I expect that John is correct when he says CHP also knows. Buy the trailer, it's a nice setup. But put a for sale sign on your truck and buy a late model 350/3500.

Been there Done that!! I had to sell my 2002 F350 LB SRW 7.3 when we picked up our new Raptor 4014. The dealership wouldn't even let me pull it off the lot. Lucked out and found a super clean, 2006 F550 Chassis Cab with a bed on it (Bullet Proofed). Now I can to it wherever with confidence. It amazing how different the dually tows vs a single rear wheel truck. And this F550 has some Big brakes and a huge axles on it, 6" wider in the front for that great turning radius and 4.88 gears for all the weight.... I still need that Non Commercial endorsement

Nice! I have since sold my truck and bought a 2016 Ram 3500 DRW with the 4.10 gears. The ride is so much nicer now And a hell of a lot safer. [/IMG]
