Cougar xlite 26brs water pump

Just got a used 2011 26brs and it is pass the 30 day wrty. Was out hunting/camping this pass weekend. Went to take a shower and had the water pump on and it never turn off. My old camper (not a keystone) when the water was off the pump went off. This camper the pump never turn off and there was a lot of air in the lines while taking a shower. Let the pump run about 15 min. With water off and it never stop? Anyone have any ideas???

The pump may keep running when the faucet is turned off because:
1) the batteries may be low causing a low voltage problem
2) the pressure switch in the pump may be defective
3) there may be a leak in the faucets or water line (have you noticed water anywhere inside or outside your unit?)

These are some possible causes if the pump runs continuously even when the taps are turned off.

These pumps have a pressure sensor that tells them when the system pressure is sufficient and shuts the pump off. Opening a faucet lowers the pressure and the pumps kicks back on. If there is a lot of air in the lines, that works against the pressure sensor and the pump never shuts off until you close the faucet which allows the pressure to build up sufficiently to shut off the pump.

The air has to be coming from some where. My first guess is that the winterizing valve is only partially closed allowing the pump to suck air in addition to water from the fresh water tank. That's an easy fix. Find the valve and make sure it's fully closed. If your rig has the winterizing valve on the work panel, it could easily get turned a bit.

I guess it is possible that there could be another problem with the feed line from the fresh water tank to the pump, but that would likely result in enough water leaking out to be noticeable in some way.

What is a wintering valve and where should it be located?

Thanks

Something else to consider... If the fresh water tank is low on water it will also cause the pump to continue cycling once you have shut off the taps.

Winterizing valve, if your trailer has one, will either be by your pump or in your convenience center. It's the valve to suck antifreeze into lines from tube that you stick into antifreeze jug.

Other possible reasons for pump running that I've experienced in past (in addition to ones posted by others)- leaking low point drain, leaking hot water tank.

you probably know, but, air has to be purged from both the cold line and the hot (incl hot water heater) else the pump will keep running. Assuming no leaks and plenty of water in freshwater holding tank, open both hot and cold faucets closest to pump until no air comes through, then work way through RV doing same to other faucets. Don't forget outside shower and toilet. Note: I usually do toilet last to minimize amount of water put into black tank.
