Question Cleaned and sealed rubber roof

I just finished cleaning and sealing my rubber roof and it looks great. I have read some of the posts that you guys and gals have placed here and it sounds like many of you like to use Borax with water to clean the roof. Is there a sealer that most of you prefer? I went with the one recomended by the Rv tech at the dealership. But, I am always looking for a better product to protect my investment.

I used Borax when I cleaned my roof and I was rather disappointed. I think I’ll be using some Dawn next time. What sealer did you use?

I use Spic and Span and it does a great job cleaning. I then apply Aerotech 303.

Cleaned and sealed rubber roof

I used Thetford's clean and seal. It was a little pricey but it did a great job cutting through the dirt and dried bird droppings. As time goes on I will be able to tell if the money spent was worth it.

I know that I'm going to be the odd man out here but for all the effort and expense involved I'm not convinced that cleaning an EDPM roof will have any significant effect on its service life (and some types of well-intentioned but improper cleaning will shorten it.) On my prior unit the roof went 13 years with zero maintenance and no problems, and only failed when the attachment glue finally gave out and the membrane started to lift at speed. But even at that point the integrity of the membrane itself was fine.

Roof cleaning

Current 5th Wheel is our third unit, have always just used the Turtle Wax Soap with wax in it for the roof. Soft long handled car brush to remove the dirt. Once a year I use a roof conditioner after drying, have not had any problems. Just another way and perspective.

I agree with S.Miller. The roof will last just fine without cleaning especially if wrong cleaner is used.
I however use a mild soap annually just to help combat the black streaks on sides which come off the roof.

On my last wash, I used nothing except a medium firm scrub brush/broom that I got at WalMart. I just gave it a good scrubbing with a solid flow of water hooked up to the broom-brush. The next rains produced no black streaks down my trailer.

Just has hurricane Sandy power wash my roof. Looks good right now. Might just treat it with 303 this weekend and be done. Am a little concerned there might still be mold or other bacteria up there I need to wash off with Dawn or Borax.

What do you think?

Fortunately...no damage (that I can tell) from Sandy. It blew my chocks out...fortunately I put my X chocks in as well. The wind blew the trailer tongue off of the support I used. Dropped it 6 inches to my driveway and turned it 10 to 15 degrees maybe.....

What part of Canada are you in? If it is a beautiful area, I will be glad to come clean your roof for you. All I ask is a place to park the RV with electric and water plus split the gas with me!
