Equalizers and Wet Bolts?

Which one does everyone use?

I have been looking to replace my original equipment equalizers and add wet bolts?

Did you do it yourself? Was it hard to do?

MORryde?
Dexter?
Lippert?
Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers?

I have owned standard metal equalizers, MorRyde and Lippert Road Armor. MorRyde is hands down the smoothest of the ones I've owned and will probably remove the Road Armor on this trailer and replace with MorRyde.

I've not installed new equalizers but have watched it done and wouldn't hesitate to do it. You do need the proper jacks, jack stands and tools. Others on the forum have and they will chime in I'm sure.

I've done it twice...once for me and once for a friend. Not too hard if you're handy. As Danny said, make sure your trailer is well supported. For a 5th wheel I leave it connected to the truck to provide stability. On my trailer I could use the auto level jacks to lift then added a couple jack stands. On my friend's rig we used our 12 ton jacks to lift and supported well with properly rated jack stands...while also connected to the truck.

Watch the YouTube videos on how to do it. It's not bad.

Funny you should ask. Just installed MORyde CRE3000 on our passport. Also bought their wetbolt kit. I jacked up one side (chocked the other side) of the TT enough to get the jackstands under the frame at the leaf springs and take most of weight, then jacked up the axles a bit, removed the wheels, and used the two jacks to manipulate the axle up and down as needed to get the new wetbolts in. Jack up the front and rear equally at almost the same time so that you don't "push" the front or rear of the TT as it goes up.

I opted to keep the grease zerks facing out so that I can re-grease easier later. I also bought a pack of rubber zekt covers on Amazon for a few bucks to protect the zerks from the debris kicked up by the tires.

I installed the Dexter EZ Flex equalizers and wet bolt kit in 2016 when we got this rig. About 20,000+ miles on them now. Just checked and all is good. Did have to replace bronze bushings on the spring eyes. Even though I kept them well greased, they wore through anyway.

Received the Morryde kits the other day from amazon. Still too cold and wet to install them yet. I've seen some postings that specify you should orient the grease holes in the wet bolts to a certain position. Doesn't seem to make sense to me. The bolt is encased in the bushing and grease should flow out equally in all directions. Am I missing something?

The grease hole on the side is the wet bolt is supposed to be at the 9 or 3 o'clock position. That was the instructions included with my wet bolt kit. Any other position may inhibit the grease from flowing.

Yes, just make sure the little hole in the bolt is to the side. When it's facing up or down it's possible for the hole to be obstructed against the bushing under the weight of the rig and prevent grease from flowing

I know that's what they say - just having a hard time understanding the logic. I'll do what they say but still scratching my head wondering why.

We just upgraded ours to the cre2-3000 equalizer and wet bolts. Haven’t trailered it yet but hoping it will be good.
For those with the wide spread axles if you have the 10” equalizer you order the cre2-1000 that is for the 10” if you have the 14.75” you order the cre2-1475. They make them booth for the wide spread.
I called and had a long chat with them. They were great.
Easy to install.

I'm upgrading to Dexter HD shackles, wet bolts and equalizers at an RV ship this week. I've had a good run of 8 years OEM, on my 2013 Laredo 296rl bumper-pull. Four trips to Glacier and Yellowstone, 4300+ each and several local trips, 500+ in the upper midwest. A good run, but it's time. I carry a set of standard shackles, bushings and bolts with me, because it's easier/quicker to find a mechanic than the parts. I'll check back on my experience.

Bill, did you use the CRE2-1475 Equalizer kit for yours? Mine has the wide axle set up I believe like yours... Moryde also told me when ordering the wet bolt kit to make sure I didn't have the Lippert Correct Track plates which I don't have on mine... Looks like a pretty simple install...

Dexter EZ-Flex and the difference in towing is very noticable. The trailer does not buck when going over road joints and other road irregularities. I'm sure any of the top brands are good. Probably just as important.....the stock shackles are half the thickness of the Dexter ones, and the stock plastic bushings are worn through before you can tow the trailer home from the dealer.

The stock shackles were probably Dexter as well if the axles are, just a lower quality version.

Sorry, just seeing this. Yes, Mortde wet bolts. I’m not sue of the kit number, but it was their kit anyway.

I've been told to use the 14.75 width kit for the wide axles... was just curious... Thanks for the reply... as my mother used to say "better late than never"...LOL.
