The key is knowing what is being torqued, why it's being torgue down and the difference. Torgue an aluminum head willy nilly or out of sequence, under or over specs and it will fail. Torgue a trailer hitch ball that is essentially a thru bolt at a tremendously low number (I have no idea how low that may be) could result in the nut loosening up if the ball gualls up from lack of lubrication. In the other direction overtightening will do no harm to a reasonable degree. What's reasonable? Any number below what the fastener is rated for.
In John's example for a 1120 ft. Lb. it would take a very long wrench for an average man to accomplish anywhere near that value. The key is having the knowledge to know the difference and the wisdom to admit you don't and to go out and seek it.

Depends entirely on the impact you're using, but somewhere between 3 and 7 ugga dugga's should be just about right.

Use a 1/2" variable setting impact air gun set at 2 or 3 and let it go. A bottom of the line 1/2" gun should have around 550 ft lbs at max. You can corroborate this when looking at specs online. Most, not all mechanics know to use a lower setting for desired torque.
The cordless Milwaukee 18 v 1/2" gun is 250ft lbs max.
Good luck

I'd agree with this. But the culture of it can't be too tight got changed in my world. Between "killing" glass lined pumps and assembling bellows seals it had to. Y'all do your research on torque values; the difference between dry, lightly oiled, and anti-seized nuts before you go charging into it.

I have a Bauer 20V 1/2” drive that’s listed at 450 max.

My Dewalt says "up to 700 ft. lbs." tightening and up to "1,200 ft. lbs breakaway power".

What's that sound Tim the Toolman make?

Just to clarify.
Overview
Model # 2863-20 Store SKU # 1001390483
The 2863 M18 FUEL with ONE-KEY High Torque 1/2 Impact Wrench with Friction Ring provides the Most Powerful, Most Compact, and the Most Repeatable Impact Wrench in the industry.
Powerstate brushless motor delivers up to 1000 ft./lbs. of fastening torque and 1400 ft./lbs. of nut-busting torque.
That's the big one, I have the medium sized one.
Milwaukee's M18 FUEL 1/2-inch Compact Impact Wrench w/ Pin Detent is the most powerful tool in its class by delivering up to 220 ft. lbs. of torque in a compact design.
It's more than what you would need on the fly. It has no problems on most trailer/truck uses.
It's not fun replacing broken bolts or removing embedded studs. BTDT.

I have DeWalt 20V XR 1/2” drill and 1/4” impact.
I bought the Bauer brand (Harbor Freight) 20V just to check them out. The Bauer battery stays charged longer and about the only drawback to the Bauer is the light goes out too quick when the trigger is released.
My DeWalt is now stored in a drawer... And yesterday my impact fell off the roof of a toy hauler. Battery went flying, put it back on and back in business no harm no foul.
I do like my DeWalt but as a person that uses these two tools daily, I heartily endorse the Bauer brand.
