Water pump - two part question

We have a 2020 High Country. Water pump cycles on a few times an hour. No visible leaks. Any ideas why? Also, it’s quite loud! Wakes us up, maybe the neighbors too. Any suggestions? Currently camping by Lake Ontario and enjoying this cooler weather up here. Thanks as always!

Check your "Fill" valve for where you attach your garden hose. If it's still in the "fill" position and not the "Normal Flow" position, the water pump will cycle on and off every now and then. Flip that valve, see if that takes care of it:

You are, apparently, "dry camping" and using the fresh water tank and pump to provide water to the trailer ??? If so, then why not turn off the water heater and turn off the water pump when you go to bed???

Until you can identify the reason for the pressure "bleed down" that's an easy work-around to get a good night's sleep....

Reasons for the pressure "bleed down" would include:

Water pump diaphragm/rollers allowing water to "bleed back through the water pump" Fix: replace the pump head or the pump.

Leaking pressure relief valve on the water heater. You will see water at the relief valve and/or pooling inside the water heater door. Fix: open it and let it "snap shut" a few times to see if it will "reseal" if not, replace the relief valve.

Leaking low point drains under the trailer. Fix: tighten the caps.

Leaking anti-backflow valve on the city water connection. You will see water leaking out of the city water connection if the valve is leaking. Fix: install a garden hose cap or shut off adapter now as a temporary fix until you can replace the leaking valve.

The last and "most difficult to find" is a leak inside a cupboard or in the belly of your trailer (above the bottom cover). If the pump is "momentarily running through the night" there is a leak somewhere. If it's not one of the above, then you really need to do some serious searching to locate the source of the pressure leak... Not doing so could be a recipe for replacing the floor of your trailer in a year or so.

Could also be the temperatures dropping at night cooling the water in the lines causing the pump to cycle.
As mentioned turn it off at night.

Our first few trips when using the pump drew in a lot of manufacturing debris from the tank. I installed a filter on the pump intake and then my wife and I opened all the taps inside and outside to get max flow to flush out what had already been sucked into the pump. That solved our problem of the pump cycling through the night. At the end of the season when we winterized, we also cleaned the filter screen and have not an issue since

Another plus to turning off the water pump when going to bed is... you won’t ever wake up to an unexpected flood should a toilet valve, etc hang up and start leaking...

Also always turn off city water when leaving the RV... you’ll only forget once and c9me back to a real mess

Flipping to city water worked! Genius! I love the simple solutions that I wished I learned in RV101. Thanks all ✌️

Just posted this elsewhere, but an accumulator helps with this. Holds enough water for 3-4 flushes without the pump running. Our pump is in the bedroom in a cabinet next to my wife. Having it off at night and still being able to flush is a big deal.

Another option for flushing at night with the pump turned off is, place a couple gallon jugs of water in the toilet area and you can silent flush as needed.
