Baggage locks won’t unlock

Got a new cougar 362rks yesterday. Started loading basement and at end of day I locked the slam latches and now I can’t get them unlocked. They locked with the door key. The 751 key doesn’t fit. The door key goes in, but now won’t turn. Suggestions? Silicon spray or WD40? I had to leave for work out of town, so not near it now, but was thinking about it and thought I would find opinions.

What year is the trailer? The slam latch doors locked with the door key as OE? I asked about that when I bought this one and was told I would have to change them out...…. Are the door keys purple GLD keys? Front and other storage doors 751? My hatch door locks have a gray key and just ordered spares. They don't list a "door" key for opening the slam latch doors unless you order them and have them keyed alike.

The slam lock keys and the main entry door key are the same "blank" but unless you paid extra for rekeying the locks, there is a separate key for the baggage slam locks. On my trailer, all the slam locks are keyed alike, the main entry door is keyed differently (with the same blank) and the slam lock keys will fit the main door and the main door key will fit the slam locks, but neither will unlock the other.... Look for the other set of keys and hopefully you'll find a key that "looks like the main door key but works the slam locks....

Look at your keys. Is there a key that looks like the CH751 but has a “cut” on both sides? That’s probably an R001 key and most likely does the slam latches if they aren’t keyed to the entry door key.

My Laredo has separate key for entry and storage, as described by Sourdough.

Are these barrel locks with the pivoting arm on the back or is there a different type on the "slam latch" type?

Different. More like the entry door.

OP are your keys Global link like these?

http://www.rvlocksandmore.com/LocksK...placement-Keys

Note there is one specific one for slam latch doors (compartment), one for entry (different codes) and the ch751 for the other compartments.

Ditto this. I received 2 full sets of keys with my 2018 Monty. The door and basement keys are different. I can actually open the door with the baggage key but you can tell it's not quite right. I can't open the baggage doors with the door key though.

Point is they are different. Chances are yours are as well.

If it's all the doors, you haven't tried all the keys. I could see if it was one lock not working, but all would represent the wrong key

Thanks all for the info. Trailer is a 2019 Cougar. I only got 4 keys. Two purple GL and the two 751s. This explains why the purple key fits and the 751 doesn’t. Guess I’m headed back to the dealership for more keys!

Thank You guys!

Here's a picture of my slam latch key. It's the black one. Fairly large key. More of a real key than the generic little ones for all the other locks.

The slam latch keys should be generic I hope so they should be able to give you a set I hope. If you have to drive back in and take the time to do so for something like this on a brand new trailer I think I would ask for compensation for the time and expense.....at least a $100 gift card to your favorite restaurant....I would.

I got a set of keys from the dealership. I had ordered an EMS and had to go get it anyway. Dealer is only 20 miles away too. Interesting how a set of keys changes things!
Evidently didn’t do a good job walking through my PDI...

Reviving this thread - We have similar issue with keys

Hello everyone,

When we bought our 2021 Premier about a month ago, the dealership said that they misplaced the keys to the storage compartments and would order replacements and get them to us. Haven't received them and we've called multiple times about it. Still going to work that and get them to respond, but they're an hour away so dealing via phone right now.

Until then, I wanted to know if there is a way to get replacement keys online, Amazon, etc?? I want to have the dealer provide these out of principle of it, but I also would like a set of keys as soon as I can get them. We have black keys for the entry door, and 751 keys for the outdoor entertainment center. But don't have the storage keys.

Any suggestions, aside from kicking the dealership in the rear for lack of responsiveness?

Thanks everyone.
Dennis

Darn keys, when we did the PDI I checked all locks. We were missing a door key. Dealer checked the lock code and was back in 5 mins with the key. What a pain to have 2 different door keys and another storage lock key. Can live with another for the outdoor shower. I ended up keying door locks the same and marked those. Continually trying to force the wrong key in the lock might end up damaging the lock. Those are not really very strong lock to start with.

Go to rvlocksandmore.com as was suggested. I've purchased various keys through them previously.
