Anyone have a 2020 cougar 24rds?

We are having trouble with door. It does not have a latch so even though heavy, the wind shuts it. Any suggestions or information on how to keep it from closing?

Are you talking about the entry door with the infamous “friction hinge”? I have added a latch for some customers.

Yes... it's the entry door. So my husband could put in the usual latch? He was concerned about breaching the wall of the camper.

Use putty tape behind the plate and you should be ok. The biggest issue is the catch plate on the door. Position it so at least two screws catch the frame, since the door is basically styrofoam.

Well, before we put on a mechanical latch on our door, my husband wonders if there are powerful magnets that could be used instead. There are such on the basement storage hatch. Where can we get them?

If you look closely the magnets are screwed in place, so how would he secure them? I would think trekwood online would have them.

I've got "magnetic door holders" on the cargo doors on our Cougar. They are "great for normal use" to hold the door open. HOWEVER: The slightest breeze will get behind the door and "push it away from the magnet" causing it to slam shut.

I wouldn't rely on the "typical RV door magnet" to hold an entrance door in the open position if there's any chance of "blowing wind" that day. You'll be looking for "another way to keep the door open" after fighting the ineffective magnet just one windy day.....

As Chuckster said, the magnets are "screwed to the sidewall and the door frame" If you're going to "put holes in the trailer" might as well put them for a door holding system that works in the wind.... Magnets don't do that and the magnet mounting holes aren't in the same place as other "door holding hardware" so you'll wind up with "spare holes in the FILON" from two systems, one that didn't work and the replacement.... Like cutting lumber, measure twice and cut once....

It's amazing what a bungee cord with plastic (non-marring) hooks on the ends will do to hold a door open. Just hook the bungee cord to the inside of the door latch and to the awning rail or some other "convenient, solid location"... No need to drill holes, damage the FILON or suffer the "wind blown door"...

If it works and you're happy with the "temporary fix" then just keep using it, if you find it's not convenient, at least it will have "bought some more time" for you to keep searching for "just the right door fastener system" for your needs.

Spent 5 months in Bullhead City AZ this winter. VERY strong winds almost every day. Used John's suggestion. Worked great.
