Trailer brake issue

Hi, have a ‘05 Ram 3500 towing a ‘19 Alpine 3701. Getting message on dash that trailer brakes not connected. Is intermittent. Bought a tester and the brake indicator is flashing on and off. I am thinking the brake controller is bad? I checked wiring and nothing came up. It does it regardless of where I plug the rig into, bumper or bed. Any ideas?

Do a search for this "check trailer wiring" including the quotation Mark's. You'll get several discussions to peruse.

I had this on an older TV. I found a combination of frayed wiring and corroded contacts in the plugs. I replace both the male and female connectors and fixed one frayed wire. On mine the wiring was becoming brittle.

One of the suggestions that has been posted as a fix is to not mix and match components. Swap out plus and or umbilicals to all be the same manufacturer.
