Sacramento - any recommendations?

Planning to stop over (2-3 days) in around the Sacramento, CA area from our Palm Springs vacation. Any good recommendations (with FHU service) from recent experiences? Thanks in advance.

Don't know about the Sacramento area specifically as far as RV parks go, but the Feather Falls Casino in Oroville has a very nice KOA park. They have a brewery and the food is very good. I live in Oroville, so I haven't stayed there, but my parents did for a couple of days when they bought their motor home, and they liked it. Due to the ongoing Oroville Dam repairs, the sightseeing is limited for a while, although the upper overlook may be open, as it's not impacted by the Dam unless it's being used as a command post or other purpose. However, if you are into tools, there is a tool museum in town which has some neat displays. There's also a Chinese Temple Museum, a Pioneer Museum, and the original Lott Home. A half hour away in Chico, is the Bidwell mansion and Sierra Nevada Brewery and Restaurant.

About an hour up the road in Red Bluff is Durango RV resort. Looks like a very nice park.

When we were last headed south we stayed at Flag City RV in Lodi - but then we were only overnighting and we were trying to stay clear of Sacramento traffic. Flag City was clean and reasonable, which was what we were looking for.

On the way back north, we overnighted at Parkway "RV Resort" in Orland, which is old and tired (and not in any way a resort).

Again, both times the goal was to be clear of Sacramento morning traffic.

If you want to be out of Sacramento proper, there is Lake Camanche just outside of Stockton. they have a beautiful RV park with 50 amp service and the usual hookups. Fishing is fantastic and many hiking areas available. Stay at Monument RV on the South Shore. There is also Jackson Rancheria RV Resort and Casino which is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Weekend spots are rare, but weekday spots are easy to get!

Along I5, very near Orland, is the Rolling Hills Casino. http://rollinghillscasino.com/hotels/

Last Sept we stayed at Sac-West RV Park and Campground. This was a former KOA and campground and it was a bit compact for a 5th wheel. I had to walk to 3 sites before I could settle for one that would let me pull thru. The new owners were trying to bring a new family friendly atmosphere with social gatherings. My neighbors were definitely very close!
The good things are; it was on Hiway 50/80 west of Sac and a straight shot north on 80 to intersect I-5. Old Town is a few miles away and they have a Super Train museum there.

Just a suggestion...A much more scenic route would be 395 north through the Owens Valley towards Reno. Continue to Susanville and take 44 to Redding, CA, then 5 north. Less traffic, cheaper fuel through the Minden/Carson City area, Basque restaurants (JT Bar in Minden is the best).

Lake Tahoe, only an hour outside of Sacramento and you can't beat the scenery.

If you are looking for a no frills FHU, the fairgrounds in Woodland 15 miles west of Sac. is great. We used it last year when we stayed a couple days to see Old Town Sacramento and the train museum.

I was going to suggest Gold Country RV Park roughly 30 minutes north in Auburn. I have seen nothing in Sac that I would recommend.

Gold Country is a great RV park. New owners, upgraded 50amp and more. We have stayed here several times when visiting Daffodil Hill and other nearby places. Not that far from Sac. Hwy 88 east is a great scenic trip especially now with all the snow in the high Sierras.
