Gatlinburg, TN
Staying at Camping in the Smokies RV park.
The good: It's small. Grounds are well kept. Nice little creek at the back. Paved roads.
Not so good:
A lot of highway noise. Restrooms and showers look like 1964. Loose gravel on sites. Sort of level though.
We haven't been to Gatlinburg in 30 years. It has exploded. I don't think there is a tourist trap invented that isn't here.
We'll be back in the Smoky Mtns next spring, but staying somewhere else.

We always stay at Clabough's Campground on Wears Valley Rd. in Pidgeon Forge. It's a very nice campground, clean, quiet and one of the more reasonably priced campgrounds. We love that area and try to go there as much as we can.

#31. At the back, by the creek.
We looked at 3 other parks today. Smokey Bear was the best we saw. Greenbrier....maybe.
I'll stay at Cade's Cove or Elkmont in the park. No hook ups but hopefully less noise. Early spring shouldn't need AC.

That might work. I could care less about Ripleys Believe it or Not, and about anything else in town. I would like easy access into the park.
We are just shocked at what this area has become.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is only two miles away from Townsend.

We stay in Townsend as well. Much quieter and easy access to park.

If you have to be on the east side of Gatlinburg, I would try to get in at Smoky Bear. Traffic noise at this place is really bad. But it is on the trolley stop.

We're heading to Gatlinburg this summer. Never been before and hoping not to have too much road noise. So we're staying at Adventure Bound/Crazy Horse which is about 20 minutes outside of town. Thanks for the tip on this one - I'm at least glad we chose to stay a little further from the action.

Pity about Gatlinburg. It was such a nice little town when I was young. I haven't been near it in years. We don't have to spend the night to enjoy GSMNP but we do access it from Townsend when we visit. There are lots of lovely CG's in eastern TN. Check out the Cherokee National Forest, especially in the Tellico River area. You might also look around Bryson City on the south side of the hills. lizzie

Let us know how it works out. It's on the same road as the one we were in. Just a bit further east.

We stayed at Pine Mountian RV Park
It is in Pigeon Forge at if I remember right turn at light 9 up on the mountian out of the hubub. It was a new park with level concrete pads and had a heated pool all year long. Really nice park, we want to go back again.
