Never camped at the state park. But have backpacked and camped off trail for years during guys fishing/camping trips. Daniel Boone Nat'l forest has the most beautiful trails and cliffs. Red river is fun too. Lots of fun things to do down there! But you have to like trails and outdoors.

Most go to the red river gorge area, hiking, rapeling, I personally like to go four wheeling but you have to know the area. There are parks around lakes, and parks for hiking. Lake Cumberland, cave run lake. Laurel lake are all in national forest. Natural bridge state park has lots of hiking and outdoor, there is a campground there as well (red river gorge). From ky here so been to most of the places. If you narrow down where and what you want to do I don't mind making suggestions

Camp in Natural Bridge State Park. Its the best campground around. As long as you like hiking you'll have endless adventures. Hope you're not afraid of heights either. Make sure to try Miguels Pizza. They have awesome pizza and breakfast foods too.

The campground is very nice and there is a cold, clear stream that runs through it. Good for the kids to play in...only downside is that due to the location of the campground (in a valley), I've not been able to get a DirecTV signal.

But its a beatiful area and my kids love camping there and exploring the Red River Gorge. If you are into rock climbing you are in for a treat. My kids like to watch the climbers too, which is more entertainment.

We camped there a couple of years ago, the park is nice, but there is a gravel pit behind the park, kept us up most of the night. They did allow us to move to a site in the front of the park. We also stayed at the Kentucky Horse Park, just north of Lexington. The Horse Park is a better campground but still close enough to everything.
