Tire blowout
Okay, I saw all the warnings about replacing your tires when they’re 5 years old and I did exactly that on my 21RBS. I put Hartland ST225/75R15 (China made) on. I had less than 1000 miles on and experienced a blowout on my driver side rear wheel. Damage was around $3,000 and could have been much worse. Rear panel damaged, furnace/refrigerator propane lines trashed and floor boards damaged. I purchased these from Discount Tire and all 4 are coming off this weekend and getting replaced with Goodyear Endurance (made in USA). Now I know first hand why they call them CHINA BOMBS. I wanted to put Maxxis on since they were highly rated but big time back ordered due to Covid-19. Buy American!

Isn't Hartland a Discount Tire store brand? Sorry to hear about your troubles.

What was the cause of the failure?

Don’t really know the cause of the failure. I never really felt anything and only discovered the problem when I stopped for a restroom break. The wheel was still good and I only had a small amount of rubber on the inner/outer part of the wheel. I suppose its possible I ran over something and it caused a rapid deflation but I really don’t think that was what happened.

I had 3 blowouts on I-40, between Crossville,TN and The Pennsylvania border, 2 on the drivers side. Not a fun experience on that busy highway. The tires were about 5 years old and I checked them all before we left. No obvious signs of problems. All 4 tires are now replaced.

What did you do for a spare? I hope you didn't keep one from the remainder of the group that all blew up...

With approximately 90%+ of the RV trailer tires used in the USA being manufactured in China; how can we get accurate comparisons?
The recall information for ST tires is minimal. To get NHTSA's attention, damage reports MUST be provided to them.
Here is the link for reporting tire failures.

Those are steel cased tires and probably the best 15" tires on the market. Just about all that are building the larger 16" steel cased tires are now building those 15" tires. Some with big box connections such as Walmart.

Just curious... where did you get the Hercules 15" ST 12 ply tires? You said out the door so guessing it was a local shop?

Shovelhead did you buy your Hercules local? I'm up Hwy 146 from you. I have a local dealer that handles them, also Fuller Automotive in Baytown. Knowing another dealer would help me compare prices.
How many miles you have on them?
I had to buy a Hercules to replace a blown out Sailun and am considering going to them totally. Our son has 16" on his low boy trailer and has had no issues.
I need 17.5" but the quality should be comparable.
